The mechanic is to spawn everyone in the ground right? What if ambush started in dropboxes, where each squad is grouped into one dropbox (or when going solo randomly fit)?
There would be a 20 second timer in the beginning to wait for players to choose their fits, then the dropboxes would fall out of the sky (Depends on the map) like installations would, and people can either have spawned already before, or can spawn back in when it is on the ground.
Each dropbox will have a timer (1 min?) and it will automatically self-destructs (damages enemy players 5m away). It has precision scanning, and if one team gets overwhelmed, or a tank is guarding it, it will just self-destructs when it senses a tank or an enemy too close.
They will drop down every 45 seconds or so, and you can spawn on it, or request one for the squad, for everybody to get back on the field when their previous clones are terminated.
Still waiting for the tanks to be reintroduced

The point is to fix the terrible spawns (not all the time ), like the one in the gallante-lag-facility where people still spawn in a room and get hammered by grenades, in the game mode ambush.

Why not introduce a "sky spawn" point as was discussed in the Legion forums? Everybody can select it and drift a point of their choosing. |

Wouldn't that make snipers, blues, etc all scattered up? That would work if the maps that the sky spawn is in is smaller, but I dont want people harder to find and make the timer the end game because I cant find anybody.

it's not intended to allow you to drift the other side of the map, just far enough that will make it hard to spawn camp effectively. The height of the spawn might also be adjusted to create a desired "possible drop zone", perhaps even tailored to each map as fixed spawn points usually are.
I really like your idea with dropboxes (pods?), but I would guess it would require quite some work on CCPs part to get it done (new Art, Mecanics, Animations etc), which I think can be better used elsewhere (new vehicles, heavy weapons anybody?) The sky spawn just uses excising mecanics, apart from the fact you need to be able to set the Y-axis on a fixed spawn point.
The main problem with smart deploy (IMHO) is that it is the only spawn available (unless there are some drop uplinks on the ground). If you are getting spawn camped you only have two options, either die by firing squad or not spawn, either of which are not fun.
Sky spawn will always give you an option. |
