Just start filling in your core skills and play around with some militia or aurum fits to find what you are good at. Don't focus on PC just yet, it is DUST end-game. Most corps wont let you touch PC without 20m SP.

If you're up for the challenge and heavy skill investment, I'd recommend a Logistics dropsuit. It'll take while to accumulate enough skill points for all the necessary equipment and core/passives and you'll also be spending large amounts of ISK on fits, but you'd be one of the most valuable players on your team with your ability to equip 3 to 4 different equipment. Also, Logis are WP farmers. Reptools, hives, uplinks, and scans will usually result in you contributing most to orbitals. |

Try using the basic frame profits that require level 1 or 3 in the medium basic frame. They give you a great taste of the play styles. Just use militia to try different guns.

Don't do PC yet. A proto suit with a Proto gun will suck up all your SP, and you'll have no modules. Still, for when you finally can do so:
Heavies- Great at CQC if you're smart and keep turning around. Scouts are your main counter, as well as getting ganged up on.
-Caldari : Best for when you have no logi Support. Fluxes are spammed a lot however so you will lose your main tank. Run regen mods, Shield Regulator is a must
-Minmatar: Ultra-strafe heavies. The only ones I have a problem soloing if they're any good. If you see one in a pc, you can bet your ass they are.
Amarr- Versatile
Gallente-Damage Mods and Armor
Scouts: Amarr for Hunting and Shotgunning. Gallente- Multipurpose. Caldari- Main Combat with a high tank. Good for outside. Min Scout- 8 heavy deep Nova Knifing and pulling off suicidal hacks. (My preferred suit)
Commandos: Primarily for overwatching an objective. Very SP intensive because you need yours CORES maxed and 2 Proto Guns in order to fit properly. Would not recommend for ground combat. You regen to slow to engage very quickly after a fight, meaning you can get mopped up.
Logis- Backbone of any good team, but you need to not leave your heavy. EVER. WHEN THEY ARE ENGAGING. The one thing that will get you kicked out of pc faster than Real Money Trading is running away when the Heavy you're on starts fighting, and then coming back after he's done. We all hate it, it's why I got the Cal Sent.
Assaults: Basically Tankier Scouts. They only have one equipment. I carry links on mine for pcs. Very good at pushing, slightly less effective at defense on interior points, unless you put a shotgun on em 
Any suit is useful in a pc. Now, you might be the greatest player in Dust and prove our advice wrong, but do not do pc atm. You have far too little SP, and it is best to have multiple fits, so you can flow with the battle. If you're a hvy, but you lose the city, suddenly you're on the outside. If you're only a commando, and you lose the high ground, you have to deal with the ground....
