Hello all you Dusters, I am in need of some advice/assistance. I am what ya call a 'New' player. I haven't played an FPS since Golden Eye! You know what I'm talkin about? Huh? Well anyway... I see why this game is SO enticing to new players. Does it get old? Or am I just seeing it through the eyes of someone that dies 8 times a match! Not all the time but you get it. Is it because I don't Squad or am not a squad leader? Is it my poor choice/setup of suits? So, i need help. What suit/weapon/mod should I go for? I think I would like to get a hang on this mass driver, and definitely get into drop ships. And I'm leaning more toward Amarr Logi and Scout. Now on another note, how the heck are people getting over 300k isk and 8-15k sp per battle(without boosters)? What are YOU guys using/doing to get that? I think half of that is my best now. I've seen that a good deal of you guys have had over 25-40k lifetime sp? How the heck are you doing it?? Anyone that will be kind and help out a noob would be appreciated. I may even get frISKy for the right amount of help.
How do you feel about a FLAG (football) Dust match? How bout i take your flag from behind?

Amarr logi is nice. Definitely recommend. Cannot recommend the Amarr scout. It is... not very good, to put it kindly.
The mass driver works well on the Amarr logistics if you don't care about racial purity. Plus, it is the only logistics suit with a sidearm. Ion pistol or the scrambler pistol work decent with the mass driver if you can aim, but try out all the sidearms to find which one you prefer.
For the Amarr logi, you need armour plates and armor reppers if you want survivability. Other mods like cardiac regulators, kinetic catalyzers, dampeners, etc... are best used once you are prepared for fittings that shun health mods. I'd also use damage mods to make my MD more powerful, but shields or precision enhancers can also work.
Then for equipment, you want nanohives for your mass driver, as it eats through ammo quicker than all other weapons. Nanohives often end up being for your own selfish needs unless you squad up all the time. Then, go reptools and uplinks. You can alternate between fits equiped with either reptool or uplinks depending on the battle. Those two equipment pieces are key to helping your team and getting good WP for ISK and SP gain.
Dropships are also nice, but get to a good point with your infantry skills before investing in vehicles. Militia ones can allow you to practice, and the militia drop ship combined with a logi and uplinks can be a game changer if you set uplinks on a good DS-accessible-only rooftop.
I am a minotaur.

The combat packs are nice.
But wait until you've proto'd an assault or a logi suit.
You're going to want to join a corp, from there you can squad a lot easier, and if you choose the right corp, you will have no end of fun people to play with.
Max out your core skills or you'll be forced to make inferior builds on your suits.

Find your niche. Recommend using support first as your just coming back to fps world. A mic in this game is necessary as is a good squad lead to tell you where to go. Active scanning is underutilized and relatively inexpensive equipment at proto level as are good uplinks as discussed before. This was also my first time back into fps as well it will be painful but there are corps out there that do want you as long as you play well with others. |

The best advice I could give is to join a good corporation who is willing to teach you everything you could ever need to know about the game. Any of the corps in the learning alliance would do just that for you. Especially immortal guides who have been training new players forever. Stop by the chat channel, learning coalition and see for yourself. Agreed definately join a corporation. Dust University is a good one for new players. Once in you can get more advice ingame and find a squad to run with. Running with a squad, with people who have your back can definitely help you with your survivability. Those people with 30k-45k sp have already been playing for more than a year. You can buy boosters to get sp faster but you can still accomplish everything just the same as a free player.
As for getting a bunch of points in matches... Logistics is definitely the way to go if you like war points. They have extra equipment slots for nanohives, uplinks, remote explosives, rep tools, ect. I would experiment with all equipment types and try to figure out what you like to use so you can develop your own playstyle.
You should also definitely find a weapon and suit you like and level them up. Also you should prioritize leveling up your CPU and PG passive skills as well as your Armor passive skills since you will be playing as Amarr. Since you are new you should probably focus on getting all those skills to level 3 first since the first 3 levels are cheap compared to level 4 and 5. You can worry about maxing them out once you earn a bit more sp.

I die 10. (Which may be I have 210 HP, my hitbox is everywhere, and the fact that a cloak doesn't hide me while I am completely still.)

My Advice to a new Player.
The Rookie Training Grounds forum contains useful information for new players.
My Corp, Immortal Guides, is a new player training Corp.
DUST University is the other new player training Corp.
If you donGÇÖt join a training Corp you can still get advice and assistance in-game by joining Learning Coalition chat.

Mr.McStaberton=
Hi and Welcome to New Eden. A horrible place where everyone hates / kills eachother for eternity. Kind of like hell but cooler. (like literally, its cold out here).
So i'll try and answer some questions for you:
The amarr logi is pretty cool. You can Equip Mass Driver and a Good Sidearm (like Bolt Pistol or SMG) and that will get you good Combat ability, but still, a Logis EHP is pretty low so i recommend you have a vehicle close to flee or always stick together with friends. I used the AMarr Logi For a while. What i did ( And got 2500-400WP per game) was call in a Drop ship and search for a good place to drop uplinks, Out OF the reach of ground infantry, placed uplinks and camped it (To protect them and Friendlies Spawning there).
I Used Uplinks (ADV FLux and PRO Gauged)+Nanohives only. (+Active scanner if i was in a city map) Rail Rifle And AV Grenades to shoo away Assault Dropships XD.
So....Dropships ARE indeed Amarr Logis' Friend. With this Uplink + Camp strategy going massive amounts of WP is easy if your Uplinks are in a good location.
Amarr scout su*ks because it fails at doing anything scout based. It has good precision but with 30 mts max range its just a waste. HAs no Profile dampening whatsoever. So Bad An Amarr Assault WIh 2 Dampeners will do a better job @ assassination. The Stamina Bonus is nice for a ''Game Start'' Suit. You know? to strap a couple of Kin cats and go around dropping links and taking objectives...bu thats pretty much it.
I would prefer, Gal Scout for an Armor Based Scout. (Less precision but still enough to pick up most MEd Frames and Heavy Frames and even some scouts, Good Dampening Bonus)
Dying 8 times in a match aint too bad, if you are playing Logi, or playing solo. I have been r**ped a lot worse than that.,...and im a ''vet''.
Finally, i recommend you Skill into RAIL RIFLES, if you are going to use the A.Logi+DS camp strategy since not always you will be able to kill enemies with the mass Drivers while on an elevated position. MAss Drivers are more for CQ encounters, where your GAL SCOUT would work best (SLayer type): Fit a Cx PRofile dampener at least. Mass Driver and Sidearm of preference.
I hope this helps
Playing as : Calscout + Amarr Assault

I was once like you, stepping into New Eden with nothing more than fond memories of Goldeneye. My advice is: -research before investing sp. -invest in your cores (shield/armor/pg/cpu) early. -play with the militia gear till you find some suit/weapon combo's that work for you. -find your own motivation/goals & keep them in mind. It will help during those stomps & will keep you focused. -corp shop. Look around for some FUN people to play with. -stick with it. The more you play the better you get, the better you get the faster the sp rolls in, faster the sp rolls in the quicker you get cooler stuff.

The more you play the better you get, the better you get the faster the sp rolls in, faster the sp rolls in the quicker you get cooler stuff. ^this^ is all good advice. I added the underline for a part I think is VERY important but often overlooked. Don't spend too much time aching that you're not hitting top 3 every match because TBH it's not likely to happen for a while yet. I'm not saying don't ask for tips and tricks or anything as silly as that it's just you're likely to be profoundly out skilled and out gunned so try not to sweat getting ground into dog food. Don't even bother comparing your stats to other peoples there's a lot of people with at the very least months (if not years) experience and we just know more about the game than you do, as long as you're learning and practicing you're getting better and that's the objective.
A point I would add to the list though is LEARN BASIC ECONOMICS (lots of players just don't get it) figure out what your average number of deaths/game and your average isk gain/game is and build some loadouts around that and aim under if possible. Your most expensive gear isn't necessarily your friend.
also add me if you want we'll squad up and I'll give you some pointers.
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.

A) Fox Gaden's post is the best.
B) Paragraphs are your friend.
C) The New Player Experience on Dust is horrible. Its not you, its them. For reals. Be careful with where you spend SP unless you know for sure, and be ready for a grind.
Its worth it at times if you stick with it. Take breaks from the game if it gets frustrating and come back to it. If you have your main set for passive SP, then you will come back refreshed and with some SP to do some damage with.

gallente assault suit level 1 with enhanced armor plates and a breach AR.. you won't score phenomenal but you can break positive KDR/isk in a pub match.. you should have enough SP for that fit or after a couple of matches.. it's a pretty direct forawrd style for someone newer to FPS. min assault is good but not until you understand the flow of the battles because it's based on mobility more than it is taking hits.. amarr and caldari is good but more geared for long range fighting imo..
the key is knowing when to fight and knowing when to run. if someone gets the drop on you it's better to get away from them sometimes than it is to try and kill them after they have a headstart damaging you.. if you get pinned down behind cover you must fight your way out because someone is most likely planning to flank you soon if you don't break out.

yea i used to fly RCs, plane and helicopter.. my main role here has been pilot since 2012.. DS is touchy like a RC helicopter..it feels in some ways like one.. your best bet is to learn to fly them by making academy alts because proto AV takes a lot of SP into dropships to be able to survive and there is no proto in academy, it's also a microcosm of what will happen with your main char's ship in a normal match that's going right. you can learn manuvers there instead of going broke in pubs.
