Never tried it. But from the looks of it, not very good head to head, but good with a bit of cover. Good shield depleted time makes it a fast repper.

The cal heavy is best used by experienced heavy players.
I've 1 v 2 an amarr heavy and his logi many times.
Give it a shot.

I use it. Basic version still seems to be useless. Advanced version is what I use.
Three damage mods, a basic HMG and a shield regulator. Base movement speed is good enough to allow for jumping and strafing or the godawful, cancerous, still-not-removed-from-the-game worm wiggle (whereby one steps right for one centimeter, steps left for one centimeter, and repeats, thereby bending spacetime such that bullets bend around you).
Good for flanking maneuvers. If you find yourself going straight up head-to-head in a brawl, you dun goofed worse than Goofy. Remember, HMG suppository action.
But, if you insist on going brawling against blatantly superior-at-brawling armour sentinels or super armour tanked assaults, well, I have no advice, except: Don't.
I am a minotaur.

Caldari sentinel and the minmatar sentinel are both excellent weapon platforms for both HMG and forge guns.
Both of them require a higher skill investment in core skills like shields and armor to be effective, but when properly skilled and running a good fit the suits are absolutely beastly.
For the caldari sentinel you want maxed core fitting and shield skills. The higher your armor skills the better because of the passive HP boost. Dont bother with armor modules.
It also requires a bit more patience to poerate than the gallente or amarr suits. This patience pays off in the ability to rapidly destroy enemies on the field and regenerate. The calsent is an excellent ambusher and the minmatar (which requires completely different fittings and tactics) is excellent as a hit and run.
Gallente and amarr sentinels are the most common because the learning curve and skill required to use both effectively is lower. Caldari gains minimal benefit from logis so the sentinel logi pairing is much less efficient.
When you run caldari you can tear anything apart with good timing, awareness and patience.

Minsent is hilarious but harder to employ properly than the caldari.

Was first in Minmatar Sentinel but I heard good things about caldari heavies ! So how is it ? I am skilled to Proto in Caldari, Minmatar, and Amarr Sentinels. For a while I was often using all three suits in the course of a match depending on situation.
The Caldari Sentinel is tough, particularly against other HMG Sentinels due to the damage profile of the HMG. The biggest weakness I found was the lack of stamina. It is not very mobile. Good for defending an area, but you donGÇÖt want to have to run any long distances, as you will constantly have to stop and catch your breath.
I tend to use the Amarr Sentinel more in that role now, using two Proto Armor repairs to emulate the quick recovery of a shield suit. The Amarr Seninel is technically even slower than the Caldari, but it has ample stamina, which makes it effectively a lot faster for covering longer distances.
If you are just defending one point, and donGÇÖt intend to travel, the Caldari Sentinel with an HMG is very effective.
Read my HMG Sentinel Guide for more information.

While the HMG gets -15% damage against your shields, the Laser Rifle (and other laser weapons) gets +20 damage against shields.

1 sec Shield Depleted delay. Enough said. Plus shield has natural resistance to Projectiles and these shields have resistance to LASER weaponry...So....Yeah , its pretty beast.
My Fit: 2 Cx Shield Energizers 2 Shield Extenders 1 Armor Rep
Low EHP , High Regen Sent.
Playing as : Calscout + Amarr Assault

Actually it plays like an Assault, assuming someone knows how to play a shield Assault suit correctly, which is actually what you just described.
The Minmatar Sentinel with a Burst HMG is the one that plays like a Scout. (2 Kin Cats on an Advanced or Proto Min Sent sprints at 7.7m per second.) Always fun to chase Assault suits down and shoot them in the back of the head. Min Sent with 2 Kin Cats is also the best HMG fit vs Scouts, although it is very weak against other HMG Sentinels.

Its one of my favourite suits to use with a forge gun. I like to run the Magsec with it as well, the magsec works very well as a sidearm to the forge gun I find. I suppose some would argue a SMG would work better but, Caldari flavour and all that....
