The weapon wheel is a pain in the balls.
As a scout, I often need to make frantic equipment switches, and success is the difference between blowing up 4 reds with a single explosive and getting my innards painted across the wall by a HMG. Also as a scout, I carry the cloak field. Do you see the problem here?
Often I accidentally switch to my cloak field at the worst possible moment, draining 5 precious seconds. Other times I'm lucky and I only deploy my second uplink, destroying the first one I snuck behind enemy lines, leaving my team besieged and my time wasted.
The weapon wheel needs to be more idiot-proof. I suggest that you give players the option to quick-swap through weapons and equipment. There will be a 0.1 second or so timer between pressing the button and confirming the selection. This way instead of having to fumble through the wheel to whip out their REs, a player can just tap R2 twice instead.
Horrifying? That's a strange way to spell "romantic".

Just tap R2 and you would scroll trough all you had. But it was horrible for combat.
What was the problem? Was each weapon/tool pulled out when R2 was pressed, or only after they stopped pressing it? Alternatively, the player could set a troublesome equipment piece to an unused button (START opens the map already, so D-down seems like a good candidate), which would let wheel icons be bigger and prevent the cloak-field nightmare.

Buwaro Draemon wrote:You know how when you tap the R2 button and it switches to your side arm and when you tap it again it switches to your main again? Back in the day it would go through all your wheel before returning to your main.
*Taps R2* Switches to Sidearm *Taps R2* Switches to Equipment 1 *Taps R2* Switches to Equipment 2 *Taps R2* Returns back to main weapon.
Would it wotk if you could multitap through? R2 to switch to your sidearm, R2R2R2 to switch back to your primary.

benandjerrys wrote:Sounds counterproductive maybe cardinal directions rather than a cluster would be more beneficial. Whilst tapping swaps between sidearm and main if you only have one piece of equipment just hold it down cycle down.
So... Scouts r2+ up or r2+ down Logi north south east west+ r2 Assaults & mandos hold r2 Sentinels... Nevermind. :)
That could work, actually.

Also, what the funk are those other spaces on the wheel? I thought they were for squad commands, but I just lead a solo squad and they were still empty, and one of them looks big enough to be a weapon slot.

*Gameplay Note: Grenade deployment requires manually switching to them, then holding the "Fire" button to start cooking as normal. I've noticed some KB/M players stating in the forums about issues with tapping the "grenade" button. If there is ever an incident, the worst that would happen would be bringing up the Equipment menu.
Nah. The whole point of grenades is that you can quickly whip one out and chuck it. Why do you think locus grenades suck so much? Your idea would gimp the **** out of all grenades, especially locusts and poxes since both are used strategically to augment the primary. AVs wouldn't suffer as much since theyre used as primary AA weapons, but they are also great for saying "GTFO" to an approaching vehicle.
It's also overcomplicated and redundant. Nobody has more than 2 weapons or 4 equipment pieces. I like benandjerrys' idea. Simple and effective.

It's not in any way strategic to spam grenades, unless your idea of strategy is to just throw and hope you accidentally blow someone up. Strategic grenade use is cooking a flux, dropping it right on a caldari and then raping what's left of him with a combat rifle. No. But the thing is that you generally need to whip one out quickly. Whether you're sprinting through an enemy stronghold and flinging fluxes at their uplinks, finishing off that clown behind that cover or stripping a caldari, speed is important.
