I've been playing Imperial Guard contracts for the past two days & have faced no other opponent besides the Republic Command..? Is this normal?

The only thing that the Amarr publicly fight is the Minmatar Republic's influence. So yes, that is your only enemy.

goodluck playing amarr fw, we were running a min FW squad yesterday and we won 18 or our 19 games, the minmitar blueberries are actually organised |

Amarr always fight Minmatar and Gallente always fight Caldari.

Factional Warfare is Gallente against Caldari and Amarr against Minmatar. It all depends on the side(s) ypu choose to fight for.
Tho, unlike Eve, you have no penalty to choose to fight for all all 4. In Eve if you fight with the Gallente, expect Caldari controlled spaces to attack you on sight. And so the same with Minamatar and Amarr.
So while it is still now, go for all 4 races Factional Warfare. You get LP and better gear from the LP store.
Tho I am loyal to the Gallente and it's allies.
PS: I am drunk right now so excuse my grammar.

If you have standings with a certain faction (a) and fight for another one (b) you standings with (a) go down.
