Hey guys, it's been a long long time since I've been on these forums, probably somewhat over a year. How has everyone been? I don't know if anyone from back then is still active, but maybe someone may remember Veigar Mordekaiser? If not no biggy, thats not the point of this post.
I've been watching Dust for almost three years now, and I've been seeing improvements in certain places and downfalls in others, but since the closed beta ended I've been thinking "why can't CCP get the game to run without input lag on the controllers?" It ran fine before open beta started, I didn't have any issues with delay. I mean sure, the controls were definitely less refined and in a more clearly beta state, but they at least responded immediately. As it turns out though they have actually got the controls in a pretty good spot, but for some reason my PS3 does not run it properly. When I play Dust there is a slight but definitely noticeable delay between when I press a button or move the sticks, to when that action actually takes place on the screen. This makes aiming extremely frustrating, as it's hard to track a target when you have to lead it AND compensate for input delay.
To me this has always been Dusts largest downfall and a pretty big reason that I don't really like being outside of a vehicle in the game. However, yesterday I got the opportunity to try it on a friends console and I was genuinely surprised by how nicely the game was running. No input delay, less choppyness in battle, and even an overall better framerate. If I could have that functionality on my PS3 I'd actually be pretty thrilled. The thing is though, I've already messed with the video settings in game (what do they even do..?), I've tried turn the game down to 480p, turned off any filters I could on my TV, but none of that did anything. I even tried using the analog video cable (yellow red and white), but of course to no avail.
TL;DR The game runs great on my friends PS3 and not on mine. What do I do to make it better? |

A couple thoughts: 1) same model ps3? 2) same internet service and/or speed? 3) other devices on your/friends network? 4) Wired or wireless on either one? 5) Remove/reinstall game. Many changes since beta.
Edit: okay, more than a couple :P

Hey man, thanks for the questions, they're ones I asked too. As far as I'm aware they are the same, both systems are a PS3 slim, although his may be a year newer or so. We are currently both at my apartment so its the same network, and the same devices on the network. I'm running wired, he's wireless, and it doesn't seem to make a difference which way I play.
It looks like I'm just gonna have to try a fresh install of the game and pray that the three hours its gonna take is worth it. Thanks man. |

do you by chance have a new tv, that reprocesses the display and fills up the output with more frames to make the output look more "smooth"? turn that off and you will have no delay any more |

I think the TV I'm using does do that, but I'm pretty certain I have it turned off. The TV my friend is using is my old one, and I had always had issues with Dust while playing on that as well. I'm downloading a fresh install of the game right now, so we'll see how it goes. |

Interesting, hadn't considered that. Now I gotta go look after work. Thanks for that tip.

So I'm now running a fresh install of the game and it looks like the only thing that changed is that the game now takes up about 3GB instead of 6GB. Still having the same issues with input delay. I'm not really certain what to do at this point besides seeing if there is actually something wrong with my console.
Does anyone have any other ideas, besides what has already been suggested? |

Upscaling (if I remember correctly) will attempt to make a lower resolution "fill in" a higher resolution space. Doing this however drastically increases input lag.
For even better results, you might want to try using an SD connection. Using analog/legacy connections reduce the time it takes for the signal to get from your PS3 to your TV. I don't know the exact specifics of how it works though so I'll leave it to someone who can explain it better than I can. Or they may correct me altogether.
Basically, I think you might be confusing Input controller lag with your TV's display video lag.

Kaze I've already looked into that. Upscaling is not the issue. I've already turned off whatever filters and extra options the TV has, and I've turned off upscaling on the PS3 as well. The TV that I used to use was the one that my friends PS3 was hooked up to, on all the setting that I used to play with. Whatever the issue is, at this point I'm pretty convinced it's my PS3. |

You should send a ticket to ccp. Not sure if they could help, but at least you tried.. Did you try to run your ps3 with your old tv? Is the Ps3 heating a lot while playing? Maybe opening it, pass the vacuum and refresh the thermal paste could help..
It's weird that the input lag you have is only on Dust.
Rise? That's what they used to call me. Sequal Rise. That was my name.

I did some more looking through my TV's settings (out of pure hopefulness), and it turns out it does in fact have a game mode option! But for whatever reason it's not in the picture settings, I had to look through all the other sub menus and finally managed to find it. It actually made quite a bit of difference in gameplay. It's still not perfect, but right now I'm blaming it on the controller I'm using, I broke my DS3 a couple days ago and replaced it with a 360 style afterglow controller. The control sticks on that controller are quite meh, I don't recommend it to anyone. When I get another DS3 I'll update and let you guys know if I've solved my own problem.
Also I'm pretty sure YoungDrew was just trolling me. meh |

Try setting your PS3 to a static IP. It's a fairly simple procedure.
If that doesn't work, port forward the proper ports.
If THAT doesn't work, try testing another online game. If it runs smooth, and Dust doesn't, I have no idea what to tell you, if it doesn't, it may be your controller. |
