So we have many people who are pro tiericide and against. The devs haven't weighed in and I will begin by putting one pro in favor of tiericide and one con.
The premise here is dropsuit tiericide only. Weapons, modules and equipment would be another discussion. I believe firmly that tiericide on the dropsuits is more useful.
Please post one pro and one con an I will expand the list as we go.
Pros:
LP dropsuits could be made more powerful than baseline generic dropsuits thusly giving players something to aim for.
Cons:
DEV time. Major database changes eat time in inordinate amounts due to having to pick out and manually alter a lot of values.

Pros: Better Balance Better NPE More Variety More Interesting Classes. Much More interesting skill tree. More Variants. Less Grinding for "+1%" stuff. World Peace. AIDS cured. No more Cancer. Puppies. We meet an intergalactic alliance of alien species and are welcomed into the fold. They think we are all super awesome and sexy. Everyone gets laid. By aliens. Sexy sexy aliens. Humanity acsends into godlike beings of nigh infinite power. We rule the universe. Were awesome rulers. Everyone gets laid because we're awesome.
Cons: Dev Time is used up.

There is also many varying ways people can propose said Tiericide.
We could simply remove basic/adv from the market, and reprice the Basic frames to be like, 13k ISK a pop, while we could also just make every "tier" of suit have the same modules, but varying PG/CPU.
Pros of having only 1 "tier" per suit would certainly be an easier time making fits and getting new players into usable suits, along with reducing the number of ... Numbers for CCP to screw up.(LP Amarr commando having L/L/S?)
However, it also could push a mentality of "if you're not in a super expensive Specialty suit, you're useless"

Let's keep the commentary constructive and leave out the ccp rage. If the devs want to weigh in, great. This is more to discuss with our lovingly acidic community.

Tiericide for suits is okay - not necessarily needed - but okay.
Because: Higher tier dropsuits have zero battlefield cost, user gives up nothing to gain more power.
(Note that isk is NOT a factor in balancing the battlefield, ie. what is happening in the game.)
Almost all modules have that cost: increased fitting requirements or in some cases specific penalties (movement penalty, shield recharge penalty). That's what keeps the proto modules in check.

Not only that but retaining tiered modules and weapons allows players to fit according to their fitting skills and core skills.
As they gain skill the better modules open up to them so there is an advancement rather than the dropsuit itself providing most of the base differential.
The improved slot layouts on upper tiers may not provide a horrendous advantage by themselves, but skills do.
This would level off some of the gear superiority and put more emphasis on SP and player skill.
Putting all meta levels at skill 1 allows the higher tier "post 5" unlocks to be better gated, and allows plauers to fully customize fits according to the fitting limitations.

Breakin, I would appreciate seeing your definition of "Tiericide" added to the OP.
FPS = First Person Support. Kills win battles but it's kinda hard to kill if you're dead and out of ammo.

Agreed, we do not have enough unique suits to eliminate tiers.

My version of tieracide would be to just flatten suit slot progression while keeping the current PG/CPU progression.
Pro: Early access to modularity of suits that makes Dust unique
Con: Possibly less incentive to skill into full proto suits

Pro: NPE we have a very large disparity between a all proto suite and a all basic/mlt suite. I think he apex suites are a good view of what could be... They're not amazing but they are much better then the current basic suits, while also leaving much room for progression. It would go a long way towards helping the new players.
Con: dev time and QQ from the proto stompers that wouldn't have MLT fits to stomp on
Dust 514, the BEST WORST game you can't stop playing.

Yeah we do.
Change bonusing. Done. and rather like in EVE, CCP can play catch up and make unique models for each later.

Does anyone else want to weigh in on the cons?
Honestly I'd rather that the STD and ADV suits be repurposed into other sidegrade dropsuits rather than deleted.
But if we tiericide the suits we still have 32 distinct dropsuits (20 specialist and 12 frames) for players to sink SP into.
Make it so that the dropsuit skills unlock what modules you can install into the suit and you have an incentive ( not a necessity) to bring the suit skills to 5.

Dropsuit Tiericide is something I can easily support, ADV and STD dropsuits could either be phased out, or brought in as variations (such as Logistics suits with Sidearms, or expanded fitting slots in exchange for equipment using the Caldari and Amarr suits as the basis). If the bonuses could be tied to the suits themselves instead of the skills (which they are in some way) we could have things like grenadier assault suits, front-line assault suits, and sniper assault suits...
As for the the cons, you eliminate a bit of the feeling of risk/reward (or rather shift it entirely to the modules, weapons, and equipment). You also eliminate one of the color schemes for each of the suit frames...and as mentioned dev time.
The way I've seen it is that the Medium frames should be viewed as Tech 1 Hulls, and the Specialist frames as Tech 2 Hulls...Rebalance the FW stuff to be the equivalent of Faction Hulls...etc
Khanid Logi and Tanker, sometimes AV Heavy or Sniper.
I believe all these roles are support for front line soldiers.
