 For some reason the SDE doesn't contain optimal ranges, only effective.
 So unless you can find old balancing threads, you won't find them.
 
 I know that the Duvolle has 40m optimal and 70m effective.

 CCP like sto balance with effective range, although imo Effective range doesn't mean crap for gallente weapons.

 I too am annoyed at the lack of optimal range information aside from the rare dev post/blog discussing balance changes (THEY DON'T EXACTLY HIDE THIS **** IN EVE ONLINE)
 
 So during **** matches where my team is getting roflstomped I got the idea to reverse engineer the optimal range by watching the efficiency change on some starter fit sniper blueberry and writing it all down on a notepad
 
 I'm missing some stuff like the HMG, snipers, and projectile launching things(MD, PLC, flaylock, etc), the formatting is ugly, and some numbers may be inaccurate due to my "assistants" squirming around, but its the most effort I felt like putting into it right now so deal with it
 
 
 OPTIMAL RANGES
 (plasma) Assault Rifle: 45m, Breach 48ish (may have been nerfed recently) Tactical 65m, burst 55m
 
 Scrambler Rifle: 75m, Assault SR ~55m
 Rail Rifle: std 73 assault 70m
 Combat Rifle: ~66m, assault ~52m
 
 SMG: breach/std 28m, assault ~30m
 magsec ~43m
 
 ion pistol ~20m
 bolt pistol ~47m
 Scrambler pistol: 30m
 
 Laser Rifle: Maximum damage occurs between 60m and 100m, half-ish damage between 0 and 60m, rapid drop to crap damage beyond 100
 
 Shotguns: 4m breach 5m

 Which is sad... Because games like Planetside 2 has verry very detailed gun information... TO the point of people doing reviews on the weapon going over every statistic... To what ranges... Average TTK.. everything.
 
 Then you come to DUST and it doesn't even give you the bonus damage values from the weapon..

 EDIT: Though the tips on how to see for yourself the optimal range by aiming at a turret and backing up is very useful.

 Let's confirm that this is true because right now the TAR looks better on paper but 10m more optimal range is huge.
 
 Seems a bit odd though because the SCR's effective range (96m) is only 6m more than the TAR's (90m).

 Vanilla Shotgun optimal is 5m, too, and I'm pretty sure the ARR has a bit less optimal than that, but I'm not too sure.
