So I seen this in a report and I couldn't help but think , " I have my PS4 sitting in my closet still in the box and unopened and were talking about the 5 already . "
So this means the PS4 is already obsolete ???
Haven't even opened it yet .
If what's happening now with these DDOS attacks are rampant , then what would that mean for that system or the future of gaming on a console in general .
The next X-Box and PS will be cloud based and attacked on a regular by these do nothing , no helping hack groups .
They could be clearing personal debt or student loans but they spend there time creating havoc while people are trying to entertain themselves .
What a waste .
Would it be a waste investing in the next gen when we just received the next gen ???
Next gen is sitting in my closet and now that might be outdated already .
Seems like a real money grab to me and we knock CCP for there actions .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

And yet here we are pushing CCP to move Dust to the PS4. No point in rushing a game for next gen if that next gen becomes obsolete by the time you even get to the front register at the local Best Buy.

There is no way that they spent all that money developing the PS4 to see it outdated already.
People just need to speculate on something, and this is what they are choosing to speculate on.
I don't see it happening too soon simply because people still haven't fully bought into digital only games. A significant percentage of games are still physically purchased.
At the same time, they have already started going this direction with Playstation Now and Playstation TV.
They just announced the other day that Playstation TV will be supporting Playstation Now, which basically makes it a cloud gaming device.
I don't know how well that will work as there are already problems with latency before you consider hacking attacks and the like. Not to mention you have to keep in mind what will be happening with Net Neutrality in the future, and perhaps having to pay a premium for cloud based services.
I personally hope it never moves in that direction, but its way too early to tell what is coming next, and what will and will not be successful.

You know what Bro , .?. I was thinking the same thing and selling the idea of digital would be a hard sell , really hard in these times but the move to streaming movies is only the first step .
It's hard to even think about this now but if you don't heed the signs then were all caught up in the backfire .
I don't like to be surprised like that .
It is still early like you said though but if there leaking it now then there prob farther along in the development then most think .

The main problem with cloud-based gaming is that not every console player wants to always play online 24/7/365. Some players live in areas with shoddy internet. Let's also not forget that companies like Comcast have constantly clearly ignored and brushed off any and all requests to upgrade the cable-internet infrastructure here in the United States. Just look at South Korea in comparison to the US.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/south-korea-make-world-even-jealous-10gbps-broadband/
Quote: According to AkamaiGÇÖs Q2 2014 The State of the Internet report, South Korea has an average Internet connection speed of 24.6Mbps, placing it well ahead of No. 2 Hong Kong with 15.7 Mbps. The U.S. ranked No. 14 with an average Internet connection speed of 11.4Mbps.
It's sad that the United States, the country that invented the internet, is not even among the top 10 in the report.
That said, this cloud-based console concept is not something I'm going to invest in anytime soon unless the US upgrades its internet infrastructure.

Look at electric cars.
They are still not terribly common, yet some of the first electric model came out in 1880 if you can believe wikipedia. They tried again in the 70s or so when they had major gas supply problems. And while they are growing, they haven't taken off because of logistical issues.
Things like Netflix really aren't interactive, so they don't have the same logistical problems as games. Perhaps a technology comes out soon that really reduces the problems internet presents for gaming, but that is going to be a huge hurdle for the foreseeable future.

I cannot even use Steam In-Home streaming to play a first person shooter without intolerable input lag. I'm limited to slower paced games like turn-based strategy or whatever.

It's like everything shinobi, people always want more so now that they have the PS4, the need info about PS5! The PS4 is gonna last some years dont worry, and a only cloud console isn't a great idea as many players dont have an incredible internet connection. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy your new playstation ;)
PS: PS4 is gonna last, but it was already outdated by PCs even before its release! If Legion exists someday, I'm sure it'll be a PC only ^^ |

The PS4 was DOA, really outdated specs. This will be a very short console generation. People won't rush out to buy the new one, meaning the market will crash. They are really pushing digital, most gaming is done on mobile phones and tablets these days. My internet cannot support even streaming cartoons let alone HD online video games.
Consoles will seem very similar, you can only do so much with graphics whilst shoehorning in 1000 "social aspects" which nobody cares about. Now they try to implement consoles into TVs?
We're nearing the end, consoles are dying, MS heads wants them to drop the XBOX brand as it's actually losing them money, I don't think there will be another XBOX at least now made by MS.
There won't be many more console generations. Get used to all digital and not having the internet to support it. I like to see my games, I collect physical games, but eventually they will stop working.
Nothing lasts forever.

Internet infrastructure just isn't there yet. In the US there are still places where you can't get broadband internet, which is ridiculous. Now consider how large the US market is, and then you realize why at this point in time, investing in cloud based computing is just dumb for gaming purposes.
And I'm still not sure if we are ever going to be able to solve the delay problem inherent in such a system. I tried playing OnLive, it was an atrocious experience back when I was in Europe. If I try and play it from over here it just fails hugely.

in light of these recent hacks the console developers need to do more to protect their servers. if all your games are online in the cloud and an attack like this happens then you can't play bugger all. least now you can stick GTA5 in and do some story mode. if its sat on the cloud somewhere and the servers are down you have a useless plastic box sat under your tele

Cloud gaming is kind of scary. Extra Credits said it best: So much gaming history will be utterly gone once the servers go away. yup its the same with ebooks. i just can't get into an ebook. hate the things. i much prefer both holding a physical book and the smell of the paper lol additional sensory elements can help with the nostalgia, not sure how old many of you are but if i dig out my NES, SNES or Megadrive/Genesis and i crack open a game case there is that smell of the cartridge and the smell of the instruction manuel. there was nothign better as a kid going to town on the bus for a new game and the 'new game smell' when you first open it to read the instruction manual on the bus ride home. with digital all that is lost, games are becoming stale in both gameplay and the feeling of holding a game you've wanted for ages, even the removal of proper instruction manuals is quite the let down if i'm honest, it loses an important aspect of the whole process, maybe if we still had a manual we wouldn't have to sit through the same idiotic 'how to' missions when we boot a game up. its all part of this hand holding culture games have and that anythign challenging just gets tossed to the side.

That's good for them. As for us Americans, good god our internet sucks and we pay many times more for the less than what SK gets. It's madness I tell ya. To make matters worse, our internet service providers are not doing much of anything to improve the network infrastructure. Netflix even paid Comcast voluntarily to cover the costs of upgrading the infrastructure but Comcast was reluctant to do so. The US government even paid Comcast to do that -- which entails a stronger obligation on the part of the business -- but then somehow legislation was later passed that enabled the company to get away with NOT following through with its obligations while keeping the tax-payer money it received. In the meantime, Comcast and the like are just intentionally clogging up the connections with useless/junk data while still charging a ridiculous amount of money with bait-and-switch marketing tactics.
I want to move to SK now.

I'd personally like to see some of those companies hellbent on getting market share in the US just providing proper internet speeds, mobile services, and TV service that the rest of the world enjoys to the American continents, beating our ISPs into the dirt and bankrupting them
Then blackballing all the managers and executives and CEOs of our current "service" providers from ever getting a job in the industry again, and just for the hell of it refusing to provide them with any level of internet service
"We're sorry sir, we are currently not providing phone or internet service to any household you happen to be living in at the moment, but for $10,000 we could install a line and give you our exclusive economy plus premium executive platinum service for former Comcast board members with 56kbps speeds, a 100mb monthly bandwidth limit, 13% network uptime, and 1h/1 day a week customer service provided by your disgruntled former employees, all for only 2,999 a month plus applicable fees! We're sure you of all people will appreciate this great value :)"
While I'm dreaming, ending world hunger and wars would be cool too |

I love digging out old games to play every once-in-a-while. And that is why Steam is one of the best out there in my humble opinion. you do realize that if steam ever dies we're going to have a similar problem Steam's great but it's totally imperfect for this very reason.
GOG is probably the best there is. DRM free 4 lyfe.

Because that has absolutely no consequences at all. I'd rather have my gaming network down for a day then watching the economy collapse because everyone's debt has been cleared and have to start the entire world economy at zero which will most likely last for years if not decades.
Gaming network goes down for a day = havoc
Messing with the worlds economy = go for it.
That's where you completely lost me.
