This game is fantastic when you get a good, balanced match...By the same token, it is one of the worst, frustrating and boring experiences when you so often get an unbalanced match...red line battles, enemy or team mates hiding away, noobs draining your clone reserves etc...I totally understand why new players quit this game...So why? Is it possibly because the try hards don't care and therefore don't bring the subject up on these forums? This game really...Love it and hate it both at the same time Lol |

Be prepared for the "SP specific battles won't work because blah blah blah" and the "But equipment specific battles won't work because blah blah blah" or the "you can't split up players because the playerbase is too small". And it really has been years that we've been asking for it, I recall reading Ratt saying recently that they're working on something but who knows when that will be.

Its the same with DCU Online. Very uneven matches. Newbie up against a veteran and so on and so forth. Very discouraging and frustrating for everybody.

But at the same time it is the thing that gives this game its character.
I agree that there is nothing worse in Dust than a stomp where you find yourself unable to do anything (Just last night I found myself in a match with just 6 of us nooby blueberrys against a full team of reds, which included a full squad of Prima Gallactus. Spent that one hiding in a building inside the redline with Mass Driver rounds whistling overhead).
However I think that there comes a point when this game will lose more than it gains by rigorously streamlining people into battles against their direct gear/meta equivalents.
I am a casual noob so wont pretend that I fully understand the intricacies of matchmaking, meta, fittings etc etc etc, but I do think that I personally prefer the idea of a battlefield covered by a variety of skill bases, fittings, etc..... even those ones that I can't, in my current state, hope to fight alone.
I would much rather see a means to create two even teams of mixed ability/level players and gear than simply tearing the house down and pitting militia against militia etc.
This is a personal thing though and I accept it is not easy to achieve with the massive mix of dropsuits, skills, weapons etc. |

Crushing defeat will always have a place in New Eden. Without perfect defeat, we can't have the perfect victory. It's the way the game is designed, and it's why so few will find their place among the gods.

Some of the best matches I've played are when our team has taken a spanking, in a balanced match where the other team won through better gameplay and tactics...seriously, I've been on a losing side, but have been left smiling from ear to ear because the match was fair, intense and FUN...On the other hand, I've been on a winning team and been left feeling cold...this isn't about winning or losing... |

I have had the same experiences, but the issue is that there is no optimal way to balance a game like this. Due to the amount of customization there is no way to balance the game as far as I can see, which is a shame because I completely understand where you are coming from.
The only ways to balance the game is to go by SP which is possible, but I have a good feeling that would irritate more than a few people for reasons I don't understand.
I personally have no clue how it would work by equipment but the people in proto suits with basic gear would be at a severe disadvantage. And if they tried to split it up more than that it would make it pretty hard to find a battle don't you think.
That is simply my two cents, thanks for the topic got me thinking. I like it.

Part of the charm is that no one tells me that I can't spend 2.4 M ISK in a match because I want to bring the fury.
A match where you only get a single clone/drop suit might be cool.

I'm a newbie to the game but not a newbie to military battle games.
Things that are common in most of these types of games.
Nobody cares to "give cover" to team mates.
Uplinks and nanohives. The map should be lit up like a Christmas tree with multiple uplinks and nanohives strategically placed.
Injectors, they need cover from time to time to revive a team mate to save a clone from being used. Many times they have to run out in the open, a midst fire, to revive a team mate. They could use some help.
Spread out. 6-7 go together here, 6-7 go together to another area, another 6-7 sweep in behind the enemy, 6-7 go high. Everybody should not go to the same objective, unless its the only objective in the match.
Dropships and attack vehicles. Some of these matches can't be won with boots on the ground alone. I've been in some matches with no vehicles and ships utilized and knew we would lose, and we did. The vehicles and ships the support they provide is instrumental to success.
Stay alive... As difficult at best that can be at times, it helps not only yourself but the team is well. Spend the SP's on armor, shield upgrades, grenades, hand weapon of choice to do damage and to stay alive with. Stay alive also means, don't run out in the open by yourself, you will get shot out in the open. Learn to use the landscape and structures to crouch behind, shoot from behind, move from one to the other. Granted, there will be times your gonna get shot no matter what. But for the most part, try to be strategic.
There is no training room to learn to use your weapons and gear in. That happens in the match. You learn and get experience in the match.
Remember to have fun.

It all comes down to bad management.
First they jumped into an engine they couldn't sustain on the PS3, then they were all over the place with their updates, focusing on big ideas that were disjointed instead of focusing on the core game play.
Then they just decided to start a different game and wait several months before telling anyone.
Then Rattati came in, and had to cobble together some semblance of a game with meager resources because the people at the top like to F everything up.
Thunderbolt. verb and noun.
