Normal EVE player: "Boy do i love, that a game i don't play has a effect on the game i do play..."
If you want to make a positive impact between EVE/Dust make it to where EVE benefits no matter what from what happens in dust. Let EVE player make dust dropsuits/weapons let them make ISK off of us, let them profit from us not suffer from something they can't even see of really control. Let it so when they make items for us we get a bit of discount depending on how many items are on market.

But EVE/Dust link is not a priority right now, there are so many holes to be filled in Dust before EVE/Dust link can be a thing.

Dust players could not handle asymmetric warfare in the manner of EVE Online.....most of the player base simply couldn't. They could not handle being outnumbered, out SPed, out ISKed on a meaningful level, etc
Most players don't understand half of what goes on in EVE, what pilots do, how they do it.............
At this point with players asking for more hand outs from the developers, more easy to use and access content, more dumbed down mechanics, and outlandish ideas of what they believe they are entitled to be able to do in New Eden......we simply don't yet deserve to affect more in EVE online.
Taking down Titans? Taking down POS's? Stealing SOV space? Claiming that conquest of space based on timers and arbitrary 16v16 warfare makes them a superior power? Complaining about Sync's, Organised squads and platoon sized deployments?
It's shocking quite frankly how little most players understand about the way EVE works.
Hell FW modifiers are more of a transient pain in the ass than anything that is actually helpful or provides meaningful bonuses.

I was actually talking about making taking over districts in fw have more of a impact in EVE....

Or raiding groups?
Or asset transport from the surface (Dust) to space(Eve)?
I know one sure-fire way. Create 100% unique Eve items that can only be obtained through Dust.
Eve pilots create 'special' contracts.(pays a fee) Dust mercs fulfil said contract. Pilot receives item(s) or part(s). Pilot pays mercs with monies that were held in NPC escrow.(the fee)
The items (lost technology) would be rare and expensive,so those with connections to Dust would have an advantage. And the influx of ISK would encourage other pilots to create connections with Dust too.

The question is simply this.....
Why the hell would an EVE player want to do YOU a favour. They could care less who owns what planet, where, and when....
What they care about is what YOU can do for them because they hold all the cards and we have nothing they value.
Why pay a Dust Merc corp when an EVE merc corp can do the same job..... more professionally, faster, and better, and actually have an effect on a foe.

It was supposed to. EVE players aren't going to care about you.
The whole point of this game was to secure planetary territory for PI. PI was assumed to be what all resources were based on eventually. The whole "I can shoot great with a controller" epeen really wasn't the idea.

That's all reasonable as what not but as you may or may not know ownership of districts changes ever 20-30 minutes randomly, across random districts, in randoms, systems......
Any effects they would have are barely noticeable to EVE pilots, and the ones that are effective are usually so bloody well annoying to monitors, deal with, etc most EVE pilots I've talked to in fleet work wished they didn't exists because there was no way to reliably manage them.

Dust isn't focused on that anymore at this time and probably never. Again, the ship has sailed. Besides CCP hasn't done anything concerning Eve and Dust interaction since FW was introduced. Which was like last year. Every idea that has been talked about has been discussed; some in great detail. But none of them has ever came to fruition. |

Though I just had a brief excursion into EVE mechanics, I think that It would be cool, if holding planets, would give EVE players substantial advantages apart from the stuff we have now.
If holding districts would give EVE corps actual defensive bonusses, to make it easier to hold pos structures (maybe a ground based shield generator like in SW VI? And the Skyfire batteries (Rings Map) having actual offensive capabilities towards fleets in the vicinity of a planet, EVE players might care more.
I always thought, that district ownership should be EVE side anyway, and Dusters should be the Mercs they are supposed to be. So all the bigger scale stuff happens in EVE, while the organization and strategies on the ground are organized by Groundwarfare service porviders (AKA Dust corps). There would obviously be a need for a rating system for effectiveness of Dust corps, and betrayal and everything else would also be possible...
The EVE guys would have a easy time, to provide the Dusters with the equipment they need, (cheap to produce for Eggsters).
This would also provide for stealth/sting operation scenarios, where special low profile ships would sneak into enemy systems to deploy teams into enemy areas, to install bridgeheads for staging attacs.
But, all this is not going to be in the game anytime soon... which is a big disappointment after all the promises in DUST's early development... |

While I agree with you in principle, the harsh fact of the matter is - DUST is nothing like the game CCP portrayed back in what was it 2009?
Dust is nothing like EVE aside from sharing the name and general universe. Now Legion is / was / should be a lot closer to the kind of thing you are talking about....... but hey that's vapour-ware is it not?

The link was an interesting concept and still is to a degree.
That being said it was the height of folly to include and code into the two games as early as it was. One game is a 10+ year old MMO with a large, established player base which takes the game VERY seriously, the other a first time FPS game lacking a significant number of features, a fledgling player base and at the time, managed very poorly and guided by a vision that was all end game and no clue as to get there in incremental stages.
A textbook case of putting the cart before the horse. Not the first time CCP has done that.
I'd go so far as to say that placing the link as high a priority that it was three years ago remains the biggest mistake of the games development.
The case for having a link is still strong but the priority before that can happen is to get Dust working as a solid FPS first (all be it one with certain quirks). Once that happens, we can all start thinking about a sustainable link between the games that is genuinely worthwhile and not just a technical piece of pretty looking fluff.
