Module ideas (other than, you know, repeating just about every module type there is in EVE...)
Jet Packs - less expensive and PG hungry for lighter dropsuits Mines - lots of potential for variety here. Anti-vehicle, directional blast, timed/proximity/tripwire Weapons could have modules and upgrades - scopes/magazines/silencers/grips(anti-recoil)/thermal-imaging/bullet-tracking/etc
Weapon ideas
Plasma Thrower (flame thrower equivalent) Guided Missiles - they must lock on to a valid vehicle (or building) target and thus are not a OHK on infantry Mortars - could be implacements, smaller portable versions? Team Machine gun - So big and powerful it takes two people to carry into battle, takes a short while to assemble Laser Designator - on the offense/defense missions, some emplacements could be guided missile or mortar launchers that require a spotter --- could provide an opportunity for teamwork Deployable Shields - complete with limited hitpoints; but don't make them like one-way mirrors...

You're right. I should have posted this in the General Discussion area because it is not a Request.
Or was your 'no' in response to everything about what I wrote? Would appreciate a little more constructive (or even destructive) feedback than that.
The idea behind EVE and just about everything EVE related is to have a lot of different options that can be combined and customized in various ways with different advantages in a complex rock-paper-scizzors web of tactical possibilities. Each of the above ideas has potential to add to that web.
But I know where you are coming from; despite your three word response (of which, two are technically the same. And the remaining word is intended solely to emphasize the fact that the repeated word is the only one that matters --- so I'll call it a one word response). You've seen how these have been implemented in other games and you are not a fan.
Me neither. I think these could be done in different ways that add tactical opportunities without adding unfair advantages.
Example:
Jet Packs. Yes, if you let people shoot while flying then that increases the rate of foolish wild gunfire, people doing crazy up/down bunny exploitation things. But what if you couldn't shoot while flying? Also, there is the problem of people getting damaged and then flying away before you can kill them. But what if armor damage prevented flight? Problem of increased mobility being an advantage far above any other speed module attachment. How about limiting fuel to just a few short jumps or one moderate jump?
Each of the other suggestions also has drawbacks and flaws that could be discussed.
My point is simply that there are ways these could be implemented to increase options (and fun) without giving unfair advantages or creating silly situations.
And my other point is that opening up a discussion and asking for some feedback is not satisfied by a one word response.
Of all the suggestions above, Jet Packs would be my LEAST favorite. Yet my MOST favorite, the laser designator, I very much imagine that one having a TON of usefulness in coordination with orbiting EVE ships. If you can lase targets for ships in orbit... now THAT is what I imagined for DUST!!!! |

I like a lot of your ideas. As far as the jet packs go though, I would think something a little toned down could work. I could see something more like a rocket booster, with a limited number of "fires", like say 4 maybe. You could fire it at the top of a jump for that extra boost up to a ledge. Or perhaps they could give you just enough extra range to jump over a remote explosive blocking your path. Also if fired before hitting the ground they could buffer a fall from damaging or killing. This could help a lone sniper exfiltrate from his vantage point in a hurry.
I also love the laser target painter. It could simply cause locking weapons lock faster when painted. Giving anti-vehicle squads a bit of a boost. Or it could be used in combination with some sort of indirect fire like a mortar or some other type of man portable artillery. I remember hearing that target painting would be necessary for orbital bombardment, so the implementation of it would be feasible in other areas. That provides for another use for the target painting specialist when an orbiting ship is not available. |
