This is what I tend to run. I do fairly well in pubs, but wouldn't stand a chance against proto.

I know the reputation that your kind of gameplay has earned you among the population (LOL, you're called everything from cloakboys to cloak-shottys to anti-Dust pests---even Scouts resent you sometimes, and it's not easy to get a Scout to revile you )... ...Why would you want to highlight yourselves in a thread, where folks can see your name, and be ready the next time they see your character on the match-board?

Bam, may I ask WHY you are reaching for an advanced suit with a shotgun? Are you interested in scout-actvities like hacking and equipment planting, or interested in close-up frontline combat?

They are likely to be some better weapon+adv suit combinations than a shotgun with an advanced dropsuit...

What i use is 2 damps cardio 1 shotgun smg flux nade The recent update has made it pretty useless to run 2 damps is pubs, no one bothers with precision mods anymore.

Not to mention running more then 1 damp on a STD or ADV suit can really limit what you can do with the suit imo.

Edit:also the flux is important it's gonna help you deal with uplinks.

, Bam, it sounds like you're being beaten up in Public Matches (something we all go through)... But are you being beaten up as you set out to try beating other players up? Or are you being beaten up as you set out to try planting things on the map and hacking stuff?

Players who fit in the first category, often get a shotgun and cloak, so they can simply kill others without giving a chance to receive a fight. They need the adv suit to sustain cloak gear to sneak and run away, and need the shotgun to kill with one trigger pull. No need to help you become another imp who dashes through the stealing trinket-kills.

But I've seen players who fit the second category become GREAT at true Scouting and winning matches. Moving around the maps to plant equipment or to hack doesn't need a shotgun (I've observed the best Scout players hardly ever get into a fight---if they had to shoot their way out only, it's because they slipped up and got discovered).
And despite how much some players complain, Dust has become such a complex and layered game that, apart from precision modifiers or chemical stims, "1" module of anything is no longer working for you as effectively as you think it is. Pick a "purpose", and double up the modules for that purpose.
This means "sneaking" should be done with 2x dampeners OR 1x dampener + cloak.
"Stand and fight" means ZERO cardio/kinetic chemicals, and double up on armour modules.

To me, a shotgun in Dust is a weapon to defend you if you expect to get cut off on your lonesome alot, or if your vehicle just got stuck in a ditch with reds around you. Many of the medium-to-short range guns are the better weapon for a Gallente suit you intend to do general combat with (such as Breach SMGs, and an AR + 1 damage mod).
