There is a deal for $5 that includes expansions, ships, skill books, etc but I have no idea where I would begin. Plus none of my friends want to try it out with me. I want to get as much as I can out of this 30 day experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that I know nothing about eve online aside from what I learned from here on dust or their really cool trailers

- Do the tutorials and read every word three times before you move forward in the tutorial.
- Never assume anything. READ READ READ, there is no detail too small.
- There is no free ISK. and do not accept gifts from strangers.
- Try out different things and explore different areas, just do not fly anything expensive.
- You will be tempted to join FW so you can drop orbitals but DO NOT DO IT. Once in FW there is no where that you are safe and one wrong turn can mean instant death.

Oh and one more thing:
KEEP GOOGLE OPEN. Sites like evelopedia will become your best friend. Google every mission before you run it and even check market data on outside sites before you buy or sell any big items. With lots of skill books starting out just a few jumps can save you tens or even hundreds of thousands of isk. |

This. I tried eve for a year but just gave it up. You spend hours and hours building stuff only to have some sociopathic no-life a$$hole come along and wipe it all out.
Sure, some get off on pvp and all that, but if you're more of a pve person be prepared to deal with the lowest life scum humanity has to offer. |

I say, try it for a little while, see if you can handle the interface...do the tutorials...all the tutorials (Yes they're boring tutorials, but they do a decent job of explaining basic mechanics). The gameplay itself is pretty boring (most of the time)...it's more about the social interactions (and meta-game interactions) that makes the game very good.
As has been stated, join a corp that is interested in the part of the game you're interested in (Some people like mining space rocks, and depending on how you're doing it....the job can be fairly profitable).
Battleships and Capital Ships are traps for new players, just because it's bigger doesn't mean it's better...(Not saying they're not good, but unlike in most MMOs where things just get better and better, each and every ship in eve has a role to fill, and for the most part no ships are just plain better than others).
Rule #1 of Eve: Do Not Undock in anything you can't afford to loose...PvP is possible anywhere and everywhere.
But most importantly, try to join at the same time as some friends, Eve is significantly more enjoyable when you're working with people
Khanid Logi and Tanker, sometimes AV Heavy or Sniper.
I believe all these roles are support for front line soldiers.

It is as much fun as AFKing in the MCC, but less profitable Actually, I know guys who make billions per week mining ice in the relative safety of hi-sec. It can be even more profitable if you hit null. Getting your mats back to hisec to sell can be quite a pain though. But yeah, it's boring as hell. Unless you enjoy staring at little laser sparks hitting rocks, you will quit in a month. Even a year of null sec (the most exciting part of eve IMO) gets old fast.
I only play dust514ums now. It was always more fun than the actual game anyways.

21 days
If you use this link and buy a month I'll give you the PLEX if you tell me where to bring it.
If you want to join EVE and have a good time the $5 deal is a steal. The link above gives you 21 days and the PLEX I will give you that I get for it will add 30 days. That will be more than enough time to see if you like it. Join Brave Newbies and you should have fun. Google hed-gp and then look up Brave Newbies.
EVE isn't as bad as many make it out to be. If you read, do some research and don't be a dumbass then most of the time you wil be fine.

EVE is a very interesting beast. It has two faces and both are shouting at the same volume to attempt to get you to either continue playing or stop playing.
"STOP PLAYING!" Dear God, the game is bloody boring. Most of the skill in the game revolves around being able to follow certain career paths or cookie cutter builds. Combat in the game is completely boring. It is slow and consists of hitting F1 or if you haven't set your weapons to fire with a single button push (Weapon Grouping) F1-F2-F3-F4. If you are in a bigger, more powerful ship you can REALLY spice it up by including F5-F6-F7 and even F8. That is 100% it for most PvE and fleet PvP, though Fleet PvP everyone wants the F1 Monkey. People may say that Mining is terrible and it is a bad idea but in truth PvE missions are just as bad.
Mining, specifically high sec: You fly up to target asteroid(s), lock as many as you can, and fire your mining lasers at different ones. You use a dedicated mining ship. You 'Split DPS' so that you don't overkill an asteroid; basic Mining Laser cycle for 60 seconds but if you would get more ore than the asteroid has left you wasted your time so 'Splitting DPS' is the best idea. As you get higher up in mining, you get better Mining Ships but it doesn't really change. You choose the best mining targets to make the most money and try not to overkill asteroids.
PvE, be it missions or farming NPC Pirates ('Ratting'): You focus fire on one target so that it dies as fast as possible. Instead of utilizing ships that maximize mining yields, you use ships that have high damage and just enough tank so as too much tank means you are losing DPS. You change out your ship fittings before a mission starts to have higher resistances against the enemy's damage type and do damage they are weak against.
In truth, the only difference between mining and killing NPC's in EVE is that NPC's shoot back and you see how much damage you have done. An addon that made it look like you were hitting an asteroid for damage and it was attempting to kill you would make them equal.
"YES, QUIT! IT IS BORING!"
The other face yells:
"PLAY FOREVER! IT IS THE MOST INTERESTING GAME IN EXISTENCE!"
The player interaction is what makes the game fascinating. This is a bit long but Jayne Fillon's NPSI video shows what EVE can be. If you don't have time, watch to 5:40. He tells how he started playing with NPSI fleets just 3 weeks into the game. He does a great job showing that EVE can be less scary if you are just willing to take that first leap. More importantly, he doesn't come off as a d***. So often, EVE is full of complete asshats that are basically bullies. Having met several of these guys in real life, the stereotype of "I was bullied or am making up for something in my past so now I am a Keyboard Bully" fits for a lot of people but not all. The presenter puts it perfectly: "Just because we killed you doesn't mean we don't like you, it just means we like PvP more." In short, you can play with being an a**hole.
For what EVE can be at the high scale, you have Rooks and Kings. Again, long video but it really does show what EVE can be. It is also completely hilarious. It comes off as confident without being arrogant and snoody and shows the great thing about EVE. "Smart bombs have been in the game since the beginning and Titans in the game since 2005 but even with these old tools, a new devastating weapon can be deployed."
In this regard, EVE offers things that no other game can. You won't see a PvP group in World of Warcraft capable of controlling entire territories.
"YES! PLAY! IT IS THE BEST!"
Depending which voice is loudest to you will dictate if you will continue to play past a month or two.
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

Mining is boring and I usually mine when I get home from work before bed if I don't feel like doing anything else. I like flying into a low sec or WH in a Prospect and doing some mining that is more dangerous but it pays a little more.
FW can be very profitable and with the right group and in the right system you are probably fairly safe from getting popped all the time, again research is the key. FW has it's place and in my opinion Low sec is where the action is.
High sec is great for doing things when you're young but it often traps people by making them adverse to ship loss. YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE SHIPS AND PODS. Don't let that scare you, even as a new pilot good corps will help you and Sindel's Angel Project can be a resource if you like to play solo like I do.
High sec (HS) activities include low grade asteroid and ice mining, low grade planetary interactions (PI), misison running, low end exploration and industry but low sec and null are more profitable in almost every case. High sec just makes you FEEL safer because of a few mechanics that make it harder to engage pilots.
Low sec (LS)is good for all the things listed above but the danger is much higher. The profits are better but you will have to be more vigilant and have higher skills and better ships to do the same thing as in high sec. The rocks are better, the PI is better, the rats are better and the loot from the rats and explorations is better.
Null sec (null) is difficult to get into if you are solo but with a good null sec corp it can be very fun and most time as "safe" as high sec due to the intel channels and vast emptiness. Null sec profits from NPE types stuff is better than low but again more dagerous if you aren't playing smart or properly fitted.
Worm holes (WH) are the last part of space and by far the most dangerous and profitable. Worm holes offer all the things that the other space offers. The rats are much more difficult but the loot is better, the asteroids are better and PI is better but there is no local chat so you won't be able to see who is in the system with you. They could be cloaked 3,000 meters away watching you mine and you wouldn't know it. Also WHs do not have a jump gates connecting them to anything, you must have a scanner with probes to find a WH and after a certain amount of time or ships passes then the WH collapses and you will have to find another that will lead you to a different WH, HS, LS or null.
Sorry for the wall but I hope it helps. Red vs Blue, Brave and EVE Uni are all good places to start, don't be afraid to ask or to try. Don't worry about losing ships or pods and do what you like and if you don't like it, try something else. You never know what kind of activity you will enjoy.

Lol, 30 days. What a scam! You can't do anything worthwhile nor skill into anything far enough to actually like the game.
It is not a fast twitch game. It is not aim and shoot. It is not train up and jump in.
Go get in a T1 assault frigate and head to the nearest low sec system and warp to an asteroid belt. You will get an idea about EVE combat. It ain't Star Wars and it ain't DUST.

Just because what you did was join a big alliance which expected you to follow blindly does not mean everyone has to.
Many options other than pvp/fleeting include going into mining, wormhole exploration, mission running, industry activities, complex attack and defense in FW,and basic item trading for a profit. While profits on these things will all be tiny at first you can start any of them with just a few hours of skill training.

a lot of nonsense coming from people in this thread.
in eve you do whatever you want to do. the worst thing you can do is ruin the experience by doing what other people tell you to do. at least in the early days.
as for isk generation its not an issue as you are learning the ropes and you can't fly anything expensive anyway. there will be plenty of isk to keep you going and by the time your skills are good enough for the good stuff you will have options for getting better isk.
don't believe this 90% grinding for isk rubbish. there are ways some harder than others. depends what role you want to take. if your a miner your whole job is grinding isk, pirate would be on the other side with little to no isk generation. the choices are yours on how you do it

You are mostly right on that aspect which is why I always tell people going in they should expect to pay cash for the first 6 months in Eve. Eve, like Dust is a very social experience if you allow it to be and do not turn it into an ISK grind to save 10-15 dollars a month. I have met some cool people in FW as well as some belt miners that I enjoyed sitting around talking about the game much like we do here in Dust.
As far as cost goes, getting a 21 day trial and then spending 50 - 70 dollars for the next 6 months on a game you could very well play for free for another 5 years is a pretty good deal imo. |

Sounds like i'd hate it lol, I've never like pvp in mmo's...
I loved halo 1 and 2 but own a ps3 instead of a 360 so Dust has me hooked . |
