I have no use for LP at its base form, but with the formation of the exchange market has given rise to a concept.
If one were to play FW and buy items from the loyalty store and then proceed to sell those items would one then make a profit similar to public match payouts?
If this proves to be convenient, I shall soon be seen harboring an iron fist along side Federal forces while in Amarr ensemble mimicking Minmatar-esque alacrity.

seems to work with the basic suits, so it should probably work with everything up to the proto gear. the special factional gear seems to be the exception

No, not even remotely.
It could be with the Simple Trading feature, though.

FW needs the option for either ISK or LP.

With a high enough level in FW, and a high enough loyalty level/sellback, AND the holo chick, you could probably be OK provided you bought the correct items for sell-back.
The LP costs don't make any sense for a lot of items, so there are a few proto weapons and suits that are much cheaper in the LP store than they should be compared to other things (Imperial Carthum AScR's I think might be one of them). Sell those back and you might make a decent living.

I play FW for fun, hoping that it's not a stomp.
The only use I have for LP is buying specialist weapons. |

I fail to understand how you "have no use for LP at its base form". LP is how I run proto. I can get a prototype Gallente Logi suit for (I believe) 150 LP and a little more than 8k ISK. Compare that to whatever the cost is for a regular proto suit. The proto gear from the LP store is so cheap, that everybody who runs proto, or plans on it, has use for the points.

Most of my fits aren't totally loyal to any one faction. So I barely get a benefit from LP and would totally get screwed over in some cases because I won't be able to take advantage of the LP I earn.

I think the only reason to play FW at the moment is if you want to grind for a bpo which considering that's the only free way you can get a bpo I guess its not too bad. If you mean getting gear then no you will make far more isk for gear in pubs then FW unless you win every match. Pretty much it all depends on if you keep winning or not. Its unpopular for a reason lol, if it was more cost effective to run FW then pubs people would be running FW more than pubs. |

I'd not say so no.
Selling the gear however may provide an increase to your wallet in the future yes.
