This was an idea I first heard about from Atiim about a week ago but I didn't see any developments so I thought I'd start a discussion.
Basically: Give vehicles a separate slot dedicated to (mainly) non-defensive or offensive mods, particularly team-support mods.
The problem with things currently is that mods like mCRUs and scanners go underused because they take up slots required for ehp mods, and since all the AV weapons to tank-level damage, support vehicles (DS and LAV in particular) are forced to focus on survival rather than effectiveness.
Also, it could open the door to more support modules for vehicles, perhaps even mods unique to certain hulls.
Each support-oriented vehicle (LAV and DS, LLAVs and LDSs when/if they come back) would get 1 (perhaps 2 for logi vehicles) support-mod slot, while attack-oriented vehicles (ADS, tanks, SLAV) wouldn't receive any. Mods will still take up PG/CPU as normal, and they don't have to be filled. Mods are accessed through the radial menu like normal.
I'm just going to tack on some mod ideas I've had as well:
-Bubble Shield [Dropship specific mod, perhaps a smaller version for LAV] Deploys a giant shield around the vehicle (probably 10-15m radius), preventing any weapon penetration both in and out (side-turrets for example). The shield will have 10k ehp (no resists). The shield will have a 30sec duration and cannot be turned off mid duration, with a 2-2.5min cool down. If the shield should be destroyed within that time, the vehicle will remain immobile for the duration of the cycle.
My idea for this mod is for safe insertion: the dropship lands, squad pops out and throws links/hive/etc and can pop in and out of the shield to get a foothold (or as a shelter for orbitals). It has some serious drawbacks so that only calculated and careful use will make it useful, but I see it as being tremendously beneficial as well.
-'Nanohive' mod [LAV specific mod] Functions similarly to the shield mod, but creates a nanohive around the vehicle (7-10m perhaps). Again, cannot be turned off during cycle, and reduces speed to that of a walking heavy (so it can keep up with the squad a bit), but grants a slight resistance bonus to the vehicle's primary tank. Lasts 30s with 1min cool down. Perhaps a triage variant could be made as well, if not deemed OP.

Not to mention it's really only useful for dropping people someplace with some protection, not meant for any long durations or anything. Also, an ADS could just pop into the shield and hit the dropship itself (you can still fight inside the shield, just not through it).
I don't really see it honestly.

Whoops, didn't read that it was immobile. Sounds like a pretty nice idea.
Why must you use prototypes?
