So I know this will never happen for DUST 514, but you must have it for Legion.
There needs to be a full API key way to guarantee security or else the many of the major factions in EVE will NEVER get involved with your new project. I know for a fact that major alliances never really got involved with DUST in a meaningful way by adding DUST corps to their EVE alliances because it was a security NIGHTMARE. No way to keep random players (who could be anyone) from the alliance chats and channels etc and thus no real security.
If you don't provide a secure API way to verify people in Legion, then you will miss out on a HUGE community of already vetted and dedicated players from EVE that will be able to spearhead the on boarding process of your combined games.

I think we're going to be much further along on this in the future. Full APIs for DUST was held back by the need for authenticated CREST, the new EVE API. Now that CCP FoxFour is pushing ahead with authenticated CREST EVE-side, I think future API support will be much much easier to accomplish.

Unfortunately (with my limited knowledge of the CREST API's) I've been told by my EVE alliance's security people that the CREST one is NOT good enough. Need to eithe beef it up to the level of the old full API's or give an option for the older style ones in the newer games.

The CREST one is not done yet. :) The old EVE API will inevitably be shut off. At that time, obviously, all the stuff that the old API can do, the new API will need to be able to do. But we are much further along to that goal than we were a year ago.

Which is why I'm poking at the CREST API... As it stands now, it doesn't provide the same or better functionality as the full API's do. Absolutely need that part to be working before you will reap the benefits of entire EVE Alliances actually trying to take stake in your game and ONLY THEN will you see huge epic emergent gameplay start crossing over from EVE to Legion. If you do NOT include this, then Legion will likely not see its full potential upon release.
