No this is not a buff or nerf thread. I have skilled into 3 out of the 5 Cal suit classes and I have to say how horrible they are with exception of one and that is the scout. The Commando cannot last more than 3 seconds in any fire fight that I have been in. The Assault also has issues for I can tank close to 700 in shields and die faster than a Gal. The issue is most weapons being used are designed to drop shields, AR, ScR, SG, just to name the top 3 weapons. The shield based suits have it bad and that is why I believe we need a shield hardener. Nothing crazy just something to make it where we do not melt. For once the shields are gone then the suit is done for. Have you tried to find cover when your using a shield suit. Its a joke for your shields drop faster than you can react.
Any other shied users that wish to comment?

I have cal assault and min assault. I dont agree to that. Because laughing as a CR using scout tries to drop my shields and able to have the advantage of my shields to survive HMGs, CRs, RRs is far more worth it to me than having a mod to increase resistance for my shields.
Now do i hate running into a SCR or AR? You better believe it. That is why i dual tank. Ferroscales, Shields, rechargers, energizers, to regen as quick so when i pop out from cover, mind you if the bastard threw a flux, i can be at full health in no time.
Plus i hate being slow gal or amarr. Zig-zaging to cover is life for cal and min. Amarr and Gal can just stand there and laugh at you.

ive always had around 400 shields on my proto suits, its not really a problem if you know how to use it. any major buffs and it will become too good

There is a huge bias against shields & noting the recharge time vs. armor regen time is apples to oranges, which is my guess as to where this conversation will lead. There are a lot of options for instantly taking down shields & no comparible armor options. Evej more worrisome is the changes to OB's in line for 1.10. EMP strikes at rock bottom wp prices are going to decimate any & all shield based suits.
My usual fit (std cal scout) has around 305 ehp, with only 86 armor. I know what i'm getting into running at these levels and play accordingly (don't act surprised when i get OHK'd) but i don't see many others who are forced to deal with similar problems. OB's, FG's & PLC's can OHK all, they are not race specific killers like the SCR or LR. Hell, even locus nades still have to go through shields before they start eating away armor where a flux will instantly leave you with your pants down.
Hit & run from cover tactics that are required for shield based fits also don't finish opponents like an armor baed suit who can stand to take some hits. Everyone knows there is no wp's for annoying enemies.
Have you considered a career in costumed aggression?

Majority of weapons are meant to kill armor not shields, and the top shield killers are very niche unlike armor killers which can be used in almost every scenario.

Shield and armor tankers have 2 different way of playing the game, if you don't feel good with shield then go armor tank. Armor tank do well with aggressive playstyle, shield tank is better for reasoned-tactical playstyle. Good luck at killing a shield tanker which waits for armor tankers to go first, he will probably steal all their kills coming from behind.
Situational awareness also known as passive scan.

You're either fighting in towns (armor ground) or at outside points [where scouts are hunting]
Additional note. Leave your cover and your regenerared shields will be down in one ScR shoot.

You are doing it wrong. THe true strength is SHIELD REGEN.

I have 105 Shield regen rate per sec and 7.5 armor rep per sec.

i went 36-5 in a dom against heavies with a 344 shield cal assault, use range and stack damage mods
also 634 (forggoten exact amount) shield and 260 armour with breach or ADV any other weapon is more than possible.
and i slay with my 874 shield heavy, i think maybe you just don't do very well with shield suits

I hate to break it to you but shields have a delay when they are depleted or taking damage. If you take just 1 HP of damage your shields will stop regenerating. You can stack all you want in the regen section but all that does is nothing when taking damage. Armor reps no matter if you are behind cover or not. Shields stop regenerating each time they take damage. One flux and your done for or a Viz ScR will melt you. I am going to replicate your suit and I will see how well it does. By the way what weapon do you use for I know running all the shield mods is going to drain your CPU and PG easily.

I'd prefer to see HP/module reduced for plates and/or greater mobility penalties. HP values are pretty ridiculous as is; wouldn't want to add to the creep. |

But seriously, you're blaming scouts in the open for not being able to do what you do? You know stupid that sounds as an excuse right. Open areas are the best place to engage scouts because they can't run behind cover and ambush you.
Both Armor and Shields have pros and cons.
If people used the pros of shield tanking to their advantage instead of just bitching about armor the amount of these Shield QQ threads would be far less in frequency.
The only thing shields by itself need is a damage threshold so one small tick of damage won't stop it's regeneration, a module to increase the damage threshold might be cool as well.
CCP holds the Caldari's hand so this doesn't happen again.

I can see how this doesnt compute for you, seeing you are gallente XD
But caldari suits are meant to fight at distance and with cover. Take cover for a few secs (and while the armor tanked A***** runs towards you you will have all your HP back.
Remember, you ARE talking to someone who uses RR on a Caldari ASsault and does great with it...so i know what im talking about :3

BS, Calmando is great dual weilding RR's or Using SR and RR or SL with RR. Cal Sentinel has resistance to the HMG Cal Assault isn't that bad. Reload speed can come handy Cal Logi has dem hives Cal Scout is the best scout with that hit detection

Sure would like a grenade that damages armor without affecting shields. Would be op as **** paired with a ScR, but would make for a fun day (like the fed duvolles with 1k rof, 1 fun day).

i never went into shields in this game because they are inherently broken.
in eve shields rep passively, i was expecting to be able to have a drake like tank with at least one decent shield suit. but theyre all awful so it was never possible.
Don't vote for iron wolf saber.

A bricked Shield suit is pretty good.
A Regen Shield suit so Ok, if you play to its play-style.
I am annoyed w/ how people say that shield is SUPPOSED to be weak for frontline fighting, completely ignoring the fact that you HAVE to fight the frontlines in order to hack the cannons.
Its a set up to fail compared to the Gallente or Amarr who are designed for CQC, point fighting, which you HAVE to do in order to win matches.
A Match of 6 Caldari Assaults decked out in regen fits PROLLY wouldn't win over a Set of 5 GalSalts and a GalLogi fitted with armor and dmg mods in the highs. Most likely not. They can win in CQC, which is all that really matters in the current maps, and their logi will simply rep them, giving them regen superior to the Shields, and with better damage.
While you could say that "Teamwork Prevails", I'd say we don't even have the option for that support. I don't get that extra bonus for teaming. I get a suit that would be better suited for solo play then taking full advantage of the squad system.

There are two big things missing that make the while shield thing from EVE work. Capacitor and ECM. Neither exist in this game and therefore make the whole Caldari shield thing useless.
With a capacitor, shield mods can become active, largely permanent and therefore powerful. Also, ECM makes shields viable in close quarters. It is literally the basis of shield use in close quarters.

I actually prefer running shields to armor. Especially now that I am constantly fighting HMG wielding Sentinels and dancing with scouts.

The thing with shield classes are that you need to build it with your mind on regen and distance. My preferred proto Cal Assault setup is as follows.
Quafe Assault CK.0 x1 Complex Shield Energizer x1 Complex Shield Recharger x1 Complex Shield Extender x2 Enhanced Shield Extender
x1 Ishu or Kal Rail Rifle x1 Adv SMG
x2 Core Locus Grenades
X3 Allotek Hives
x1 Complex Reactive Plate x1 Complex Ferroscale Plate x1 Complex Shield Regulator
Depending on the situation I keep a second suit with two Complex Shield Regulators and 3 Complex Shield Extenders. The problem with my set up is I have to rely solely on my Proficiency 5 RR-SMG to deal acceptable damage. So my play style is aggressive defense on skirmish or tactical defense on domination.
