What are assault dropships supposed to be combatwise? Offensive or defensive? Right now they are hardly either.
Bring back the former balance of strength against swarms or give big bonuses to turrets on ADSs. I prefer the latter and then the ADS becomes a strafing attack vehicle vs. A hover and camp vehicle.
More range and tighter spread (better hit detection?) on blaster, bigger spread on missiles, spread and/or RoF or overheat for rails per level combined with defensive weakness would allow ADS to be better strafing vehicles and limit their time to engage.
They'd have a role that prevents OPness. One that fits nicely with not having jets in the game.

never gonna happen, will cause ADS to become OP against infantry, that's mainly why they nerfed them.

Trouble was, not many people used it and as a result there weren't many people on the forums to defend it when all the envious fatties and crap tankers came to crucify it.
It's pretty bad now. I don't mind the DPS nerf too much. It's the nerfed afterburners and buffed swarm launchers thats caused the unbalance.

Like the idea of trying to balance it out as a 'strafing' type vehicle. The old ADS's were OK but, although I never flew them only gunned, I think their ability to stay on point over a target was a little bit much.
These things are closer to helicopters than jets. Probably does need to hit a bit harder than it currently does, especially with door gunners in as well but shouldn't be able to go back to being able to camp a point. Needs to be able to effectively clear a roof/exposed point but then have to clear out if any concentrated fire is put on it.
More Apocalypse Now, less Independence Day
Was in a skirmish match (stomp) against squads of Prima Gallactus and Iberica Racing last night and they were using Dropships to hustle between the points. Two full dropships 12 mercs synchronised deployment over the objective with HAV support. Pretty cool. |

Before you try to make it only viable for strafing runs, please be aware that the hit detection while your dropship is moving is absolutely ******. It's not a case of having to compensate for the movement by getting the correct lead on targets, it's just that the projectiles don't seem to be hitting where they look like they are on your screen. Which is why Missiles are the only viable small turrets currently, the splash damage compensates for the broken hit detection.
