Is the revenue made by Dust514 being used to develop project legion for pc? Is it okay for me to even ask this?

I don't see why it wouldn't be okay for you to ask that just so you know that CCP isn't going to tell you either way. |

No, the money from DUST BPOs is going to make up for the massive dev deficit CCP accrued last year. Think of it as the game world's equivilent of this:

I'd be tempted to spend money on Dust if I knew that the money that they've been making lately was being used to develop Legion, of course it won't be all or probably even most of the money that they are getting that would be spent on Legion.

I am clearly not a Dev, but to the best of my knowledge Dust 514 and Project Legion each have their own separate budge.
Cheers, Cross
EDIT: This is, as far as I know, a major element in how Dust 514 is able to continue to be patched. Which makes sense really, as long as the game remains 'in the black' it makes sense to continue investment in developing it further.
See a cool idea thread? Mail me the title and I'll take a look =)

With that being said. I don't see why the Legion couldn't be out on PS4 now besides the fact that you could do more on the PC but you'd lose a lot of your fanbase.
They've obviously shown what good they can do on the PS3 now that the old terribad management is out of the way of DUST's development.
I want Legion to come out, or I want DUST 514 to survive to become the game we wanted it to be.
Either way that won't be possible staying with the PS3.
I'm either going to get a PS4 or a New Gaming PC (my gaming Laptop is getting up there) and it mostly depends on what system CCP ports its FPS to.
If they abandon everything then I'm pretty much done with gaming. All I play is Single Player RPGs and those alone are not enough to merit buying a new system/rig. If you decide to build a PC hit me up in game, I'll help you pick parts and watch tutorials on how to build it. It's just like legos!

It only makes sense, really. Once people started dropping cash on BPOs again suddenly we get multiple actual patches, which we were told were not possible before... Because they cost money, obviously.

Patches via the PSN cost CCP nothing.

DUST was just taken off the CCP R&D budget. R&D is always a reported loss. Valkyrie is also part of that loss.
Since DUST has been separated (I have been led to understand that our dev team had a lot to do with that) DUST IS ON IT'S OWN BUDGET.
Legion is now under the auspices of CCP's R&D slush fund and thusly will accrue a loss in the next tax release. Valkyrie as well. Most of that loss was actually the cannibalizing of the WoD project.
So statements like this are misleading. DUST is currently supporting itself.
This is why we are getting actual client updates on the roadmap rather than eternal hotfixes.
TL;DR: Unless you have an economics degree don't spread this sh*t. It drives people away from the game.

Seems like it would have made sense to NOT shoot Dust's revenue in the foot by trying to create some new and separate experience on a platform many of the current community don't play on.
Legion should be scrapped and plans made to ensure that Dust last beyond the life cycle of the PS3.

Updating DUST to the PS4 would give CCP a LOT of wiggle room.
Especially if they can keep the PS3 players in the sandbox so they aren't automatically flushed.
If CCP can figure out how to connect EVE to DUST they can bridge the PS3/4 connection gap.

There are MASSIVE amounts of isks in Dust. Everyone spam the most expensive stuff without consequences. 75% of that isk is from old PC.
Hope CCP won't transfer isk/BPO to legion.

Sony stopped charging developers for ps3 updates a few months ago since the ps4 is the new hotness.

Which is a good thing because then this means Dust 514 is already able to sustain itself thanks to boosters and early-access consumables, BPOs, Jara Kumora, and now (ewwww) respecs. This is completely different from World of Darkness because Dust is at least making money for CCP. WoD didn't even make it to beta testing let alone make a profit.
Honestly, I can't help but feel as if Dust has become a test bed for Project Legion. I bet the only reason Legion hasn't been green lit so far is because CCP is waiting on how it turns out for Dust 514. Makes sense this way. If a map, mechanic, and other features can be optimized and made stable in Dust then that means Legion's PC platform will handle it just fine.
On Twitter: @HilmarVeigar #greenlightlegion #dust514 players are waiting.

It most likely has. The only surprising (or stupid. depending on your POV on fanfest) thing is that CCP took this long to figure it out and went with a "halt dust development completely to focus on legion" model instead.
