Why do I choose a tank?
A) Because tanking is extremely helpful, and is an essential role to my squad.
B) Because I find tanking to be a good challenge seeing how expensive they are yet how easily they can be destroyed if you're not careful.
C) Because it's different from the other roles, and i'm not too interested in infantry.
D) BECAUSE DRIVING A TANK IS F***ING AWESOME.

A.) We could be more helpful if we had a role. What's your thoughts on this?
B.) I used to feel this way until 1.7 when Tanking went easy mode and now required no effort or thought.
C.) YUP!
We are ******* awesome.

This is the scenario I imagine: One team has captured the point, the other team's infantry isn't strong enough, so they bring out a tank (or two) to assist the infantry (Blaster tanks preferably). So the other side brings out Rail/Missile tanks to counter their tanks. THEN, you have a tank battle going on along side the infantry battle. Unfortunately, nowadays you don't really need a tank to kill a tank. Not many people are actually willing to bring out a tank to kill a tank. REs are extremely effective at killing tanks. Pop a few REs on the ground, tanks runs over them, boom. OR throw them on a jihad baloch with a fuel injector. Personally though, I don't mind jihad LAVs. Tanking's really gone downhill. Sometimes I feel like it's not worth bringing out anything more expensive than a Sica. I wish I was around back when they had all those variations. I joined Dust around the end of 1.6, when a lot of the tank stuff was removed I hear.
TL;DR I guess the answer to your question would be infantry support.

Sadly tanking is no where near as fun as it was in chromosome when there were expensive tanks up to 2.5 million isk and they were a fking force to be reckoned with. I mean, people were sh*tting brick when they saw these mammoths and then uprising came when those 2.5 million isk tanks still existed except they were so weak and easily destroyed by proto AV. Now we are here where everybody and their mother has the same tank fits.
P.S. In chromosome, if you had a problem, the sagaris and surya were the type of tanks that would get the job done. Sadly blasters aren't anti-infantry like they use to be. Now you just have to pray that your blaster rounds hit where as if you were accurate you could kill. Chromosome blasters weren't as OP as the 1.7 blasters.

Yeah I never had either but I did put a hell of a lot of time into AV to destroy those things!

The main reason I like tanks is that everyone that attacks you can clearly be seen by other people you know who killed you and everyone else does as well.
I don't know why I despise people that fight effectively by staying hidden and I think people that fight effectively by driving a tank are Fine and upstanding mercs, I think I want to see a good show, If two guys with officer forge guns destroy my tank in 2 seconds I still get to see a show. If two guys with officer sniper weapons would just show people death animations
