Not to say which is better just my personal experience with using both recently.
IMHO shotgun is harder to use, slightly easier with cloak, as in you dont have to be within 2mts to be effective, has extremely high
alpha, decent spread and hit detection. But, even before cloak, people would turn around and backpedal at the very sound of them,
and, since now there being used a whole lot more now though it has calmed down, peope are much more aware. Plus shotgun has
decent sound profile within a good distance which basically has everyone in the area saying shotgunner cause you can hear them.
The sound is sort of masked when engaged with lots of gun firevaround but when they get hit once, usually by the second shot
if there not dead you are.
Knves. Much quieter then shotgun, as expected has very limited range, is most effective on min scout but is useful on other suits,
now instant swipe more of one-two motion, can miss entirely which can be hilarious, can have one blade connect and the other
miss, since you have to be in such close quarters with someone them turning around can result in injury, or death. Same with shotgun.
However, having both blades connect preferably charged, can cause serious injury or death to whoever is at the recieving end,
preferably not yourself.
I use both, not saying which is better just typing experience while using both. IMHO knifing is still fun and VIABLE.

skilled nova knives prof 2 today because boredom. they're actually insanely fun to use. I still prefer my shotgun though. :3

Knives and a CR/BrAR is a very viable combination -- and a little more flexible than shotgun&[insert sidearm here].

Knives not only take a sidearm slot compared to a light, but they are also a ton lighter on CPU/PG by design.
Shotgun is really only there for my Commando, or for my throwaway Minja Quafe.
