I found this while lurking in Feedback. In short, Rattati would like to use the existing gun models to create a mortar, laser, and auto cannon set of Heavy weaponry. Funny enough that a concept mortar Mass Driver was considered during the Beta by Wolfman. After consistent shifts in development none of those things came to fruition.
Don't think about that, think about all the money.

I remember being excited and worried about a mortar mode for the MD. Either way, it would have been epic.
