(How) Does server tickrate affect hitdetection in Dust? If so how does different tickrates affect hitdetection in a low latency (~10ms roundabout) environment? And how does different tickrates affect hitdetection in a medium latency (~50ms roundabout) environment? And how does different tickrates affect hitdetection in a high latency (~99ms roundabout) environment?
Is there a measurable difference in hitdetection when comparing different 'frames per second's, tickrates, and latencies? (During programmed sequences)
Are there other variables that play a larger role in hitdetection? (The part of aim assist that you can turn off for example)

Would it be possible to setup an automated test scenario that outputs handy data? Something in the lines of...
# Scene 1 - Aim vs. Hit Detection
Aim Assisted Bot (henceforth Aim Bot) has a, on it's screen, perfect aim - crosshair on target 100% of the time. (in each of it's frames (per second))
Sprinting For It's Life Bot (henceforth Sprint Bot) runs in a straight line at X speed at distance Y with an angle Z to Aim Bot.
While varying Sprint Bots speed (range 1 metres per second up to 20 m/s), distance (from Aim Bot), angle (from Aim Bots perspective), as well as server tickrate, Aim Bot-& Sprint Bot's frames per second and latencies comparing the average (of a 100 simulations) hit percentage in each variant of the simulation and with each weapon.
* Which factors affect hit detection most? * Are there factors which combined effect essentially break hit detection? * If you do not run any animations (static models) does hit detection improve? * If the simulations are repeated on uneven terrain is hit detection affected? * Is the perceived poor hit detection really a problem of jerky/uneven animations? (Is it exacerbated by uneven terrain?) * That new animation system for Legion wouldn't happen to be back portable to Dust, would it?
# Suggestion for Scene 2 - Sprint Bot does the wiggle-wiggle dance in different attires

Questions about latency compensation
Player A runs into cover while Player B is shooting at him/her. - If both players are playing on their home server and have an ok ping, ~50ms, for how long after Player A has moved into cover on his/her screen can he/she still be hit by Player B?
- If Player A has an ok ping, ~50ms, and Player B has a really bad ping, ~200ms, for how long after Player A has moved into cover on his/her screen can he/she still be hit by Player B?
- If Player A has a really bad ping, ~200ms, and Player B has an ok ping, ~50ms, for how long after Player A has moved into cover on his/her screen can he/she still be hit by Player B?
- If both players really bad ping, ~200ms, for how long after Player A has moved into cover on his/her screen can he/she still be hit by Player B?
(BTW what is the average rendering latency?)

Edit for post 2: One interesting bit of data to look at is how far the crosshair of Aim Bot would have to skip in between frames in order to stay on target, and subsequently what input that would have required GÇö is it possible to do that input with a controller? is it possible to do that with a mouse?
Are there problems associated with hit detection that stems from controls? control input latency? animations? terrain? "netcode"? combinations?

This is a really good read, luckily the wayback machine has a cached version as the original 404s.

I would say that this article from Valve is slightly more fitting and comes from a very reputable source (lolol) when it comes to FPS games.
More like Titans of Penis amirite?
Come play a better game.
