So Proto....I mean it's like why the **** not.
I come back and play the game, months away. Die a **** ton in my G-I. Cool go play vehicles..... Uhuh nice and fun with new blasters a little and oh wouldn't you know it an HAV shows up and puts a dampener on my ****. Back to infantry....
Hmm maybe I put together a gk,0 with a CreoDron like the good ol days and holy **** I'm playing an FPS where I can compete a little.
So but what kind of game is this: where the best is out all the time or you're not competing. Basically Proto is par and everything else is sub-par.
You get the most modules from proto thus the more versatility and options, I'd say the parameters for a more fun suit right there. A suit that you can do more with. You get the hardest hitting gear - and when it's too common place it sets the par. Proto also offers some unique **** like Thukker grenades, specialist stuff from FW.....Last but not least you probably have the best survivability chances.
Sum up: Proto is: +The Par +The Best +The most Fun +The most versatile (exceptions: ADV ScP's)
So I mean I get that through design, proto is my reward of time. But I mean if it's so damn commonplace and inevitable why didn't we just make 2 tiers? Proto and Officer : Purchase & Salvage. I mean when you tier the purchasable the best tier will become too commonplace. You don't see officer weapons all the time because you can't just go out and buy those.
TLDR: Seriously flawed system of ranking. More competition and fun is wrung out of proto use so really proto should've been the norm. Jussayin'.

Can I just say no to all of this?
My STD assault, logi, and heavy suit with STD ScR, ScP, CR, Assault RR, and HMG all say no too.
The scouts say yes, though. |

Indeed.
I'm sure there'd be funner, closer, more competitive matches if there was virtually no tier-disparity. Everybody on more or less equal footing. Heck, I'm sure match making and gear balancing would be easier, too.
Here's hoping for some tiericide in the future. It may not fix the flawed system completely unless taken to the extreme (which may sap much of what makes DUST what it is), but any little thing would help at this point.

The scouts say yes, though. Cool I can scrub munch with skinweave and exile like any other gremlin kid in the game but can everyone's proto gear shutdown your sub par gear? Yes, over and over and over again yes. Play a proto squad in basic gear and tell me that you can take them on with neck and neck competitiveness and have more fun and maintain the two for the whole time.....
I'm not saying you can't kill a pup with a militia grenade, but I'm saying fools would've run over 5 times the cannon fodder in proto suit and gotten more satisfaction from a well performing and less limited suit.
We are ignoring rISK because lolISK.

Scouts shouldnt be that strong. I use most my ammo just gettingg synced to their strafe and I burst the rounds too. Scouts are very fast but the proto versions give them to much hp for the speed. I also noticed a proto scout takes 2 hits from my charge sniper. Id say 1 should be fine considering they use cloak.

Can't say I understand your point.
But there'd a disconnection here between some players. Because there's people like me - who don't care for this lobby shooter, that wants Skirm 1.0 back, for PC to be main focus of this game along side FW, and allow the hard-core community to thrive while letting casuals enjoy the lobby shooter aspect that we have now.
And for those people like me - we enjoy the meta of the weapons and gears. You brought that stuff into the battle with a purpose and a reason, you spent that ISK to accomplish something. It adds to the game seeing the level of gear people will go to to get something done.
Then there's players who have given up on this game, or maybe never had faith in a real game to begin with. Players who are satisfied with a lobby shooter experience and just want that improved - those players would be in favor of a tiercide system, regardless that it keep top players on top still.
So I'm basically for how CCP has done the meta set-up for weapons/gear. Removing it for a standardized set stats for equal play would take away the few things left that still make Dust an EvE game. |

It wasn't commonplace at first. It is now due to the ridiculous amounts of ISK some ppl have. Personally I can't go ISK positive by running proto, so I don't run it. Right now I'm not even going ISK positive running advanced, where I used to. Not sure why. In general, this may be coz I'm an average player but my point is, there must be plenty of me around, no?
Anyway, your idea sounds like it has merit.

Whoa Whoa Whoa
I'm just saying there's no more incentive to use lesser gear. Where's the fun? The competitive footing? Risk? I'm risking pennies on the imaginary dollar practically.
I'm saying that if I want to milk some fun out of this game I have to bring out the big guns to just be consistently competitive. I'm pretty rusty and all, kinda crutchin' it I guess, but man it's just not fun dying because I got out-meta'd.
I'm not trying to bring out a *****-tangent, I'm just saying that if everyone achieves the proto level at some point why not cut out the grind and just give everybody proto. I'm not against having a GEK on a gk.0, lower tier gear can be used to further your suit in another form, but I'm merely pointing out:
If You Can Proto, Why Not?
What is the reason to not run proto when ISK is of no object? Challenge yourself?
PC isn't even all that different. PC Is practically the tiercide I'm talking about. Do you find anything less than proto in PC with the exception of that one Pink Fluffy bunny who ran a GEK and placed top against [RND?]
I'm asking for a reason to not run proto when the fun of it begins to go down...

Jussayin'. i fully agree.. even with level 5 in most skills in my standard suit it just seems i lose 80% of the time.. i move to advanced 50% of the time.. i move to proto.. maybe 20% of the time.. and even then end of match payments dont even cover a proto logi suit.. maybe half of one.. its pathetic, not fun and proto in pub contracts ruins the fun.. almost as much as too many scouts(more then 2 per team) can absolutly drain ALL the fun from the game and just make it a frustrating rage inducing game.

Tiericide suits first by only changing every suit slot layout to the proto equivalent. Keep cpu and pg as fitting limitation.
One step at a time.
Modules and weapons should be where the risk vs ISK cost should be. They have to be tiered.

Kinda funny as I ran a pub right before downtime today just thinking it to be an empty match 10 vs 14 and wanting to relax decide to run my bpo logi even tho I was on the 14 merc side our side was completely mlt while the other side was lolstomping us.. needless to say the stompers were lossing pretty badly till they scout/heavy spammed their way to victory..
I gave them a run for their money even though being a min logi.. my point is you don't need proto to be competitive some people just can't do well in lower teirs no matter how weak other mercs are.. especially taking a look at some of the MFW I've been in I rarely see proto unless we are going up against a qsync the highest I see is adv vs the Amarr protobears and they still lose.. I personally love proto and isk isn't a problem or will ever be a problem for me but I like killing protobears with my basic knives as I cut through their ego it makes me feel more accomplished. Proto is no fun to me lately as it makes everything seem more of a twitch shooter.. I like challenges. |

There's a point where you grow out of using gear-advantage to roll over poor bastards in MLT to make yourself feel the happiness you can't get elsewhere in your life.
That point is when you downgrade to STD.
(Why aren't the fun variants available at STD level? A AScR is really hard to fit on STD suits.) |

Gallente suits suck at basic level due to the Reliance on high armor reps only attainable through complex reps. If you wanna go basic I would use a e-war shotgun scout, or a basic heavy suit with hmg.

Remove tiers. Make proto standardized. Have two "tech" levels, basic frames (which would get bonusii and be cheap) abd specialized frames (which would get hella bonusii and be rather annoyingly expensive. )
Please Lone-wolf responsibly. Calling for nerfs because you died is bad, cause its usually your own stupid fault.

There's people like me that come along and wreck so-called "tankers" in pubs. Like some poor sap that tried to out-tank me in his Gunnlogi, using a NOS which eats away at his potential HP, and a large missile. I had my own Gunnlogi with a rail, with my own mods that are better fit for taking out both hulls, and destroyed him. He was trying to go back and forth, but unfortunately for him, I've been doing this for so long, it's second nature. Never attack another shield tank head-on with missile when he's ready for you.
I may be missing something, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't call for a tank nerf before Uprising 1.7. - Atiim

I firmly believe they need a regular game mode with premade fits, so people can really show off their skills and not base them off the SP they have.
Sort of like what Destiny has. Of course this should have been implemented in the very beginning, more people would stick around if they knew they didn't have to play against a 50mil SP monster.
If you're not wearing proto, you're doing it wrong.

I still run STD. Yes, my team will often get overrun by protos who seem to have unlimited isk(definitely not because PC flooded dust with isk, it had to be all the MLT/BPOs what broke the isk flow)
Still trying to run my 240 ehp GalScout vs all the 500-600+ehp scoots...frankly, I'm a bit bitter.
But I've gone off topic here, Proto is the meta and will remain as such till we get meta level game modes.
