2. Is notoriously difficult to learn how to play given the glitches and terrible handling rivaled only by a shopping cart missing a wheel.
3. Has concepts that are not immediately obvious like Drop Uplinks on roofs, Redline Snipers, or Remote Explosive Frisbees.
4. They are new.
5. The game's matchmaking puts all them against Prototype Squads.
6. The game doesn't scramble teams in between games so you will often have the same team composition game after game if you jump into the next battle.
7. The game's idea of a tutorial is to have to shoot people who are, ostensibly, also new to the game. This doesn't teach you things like "This is a Militia Tank. Use your Militia Swarm Launcher to deter or destroy it."
8. Equipment tiers are not really explained. When I first starting playing, despite the fact that I had played EVE, I was still amazed that I couldn't kill people as fast as they could kill me. "I have an Assault Rifle. Why is his Duvolle killing me so fast?"
9. There is no 'Noob Tube' in the game that allows new players a pump in overall power that allows them to take out a veteran or at least get some kills ala the grenade launcher from CoD or Titanfall's Smart Pistol.
Yes, it is annoying to see the 1/16 player on your team. I often find myself wondering "how can they have died so many times?" but then I think back to the crap I have done and seen. Blaster Tank sitting in an area blowing away the people that think Assault Rifles are effective against a 5,800 Shield Gunnlogi. Spawn Camping CRU's. Orbital after orbital, though not so much anymore.
It is easy for us with our Prototype gear or even just an understanding of the maps and metagame to say "how can they have died so many times?" when we might have difficulty looking back to where we were. I started about a month into open beta. I was probably 2 million SP away from the top players so just my Raven Assault with my Exile Assault Rifle was enough to be heavily competitive. New players now are 30, 40, 60 million SP away. "I can make a new account and do just fine with Militia gear." And I am sure you also have been forged from the crucible into a person with some knowledge in the game like "what does gk.0 and that yellow stuff that is being shot into his back mean?"
DUST is brutally difficult for the new player and the game is not worth playing to go through that early brutality of spawn, shoot, die when you are not even getting the satisfaction of killing someone. DUST is a mediocre game; it isn't terrible and it isn't overly good. But there is no way in hell I would stomach through it again in a much worse way than it ever was for me to experience the game as it is.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.
