Aside from picking at the details, do you think each class should help balance the game.
It's was said before: Scout hunts heavy; hunted by assault Assault hunts scouts; hunted by heavy Heavy hunts assault; hunted by scout
Should this THEORY apply???

No, as far as infantry goes there shouldnt be a hard advantage and hard counter ala rock paper scissors That thinking has plagued this game in one form or another and is part of the still screwed balance issues since CCP and EVE players cant seem to wrap their heads around the idea that what works for ships in space does not work for guys on foot Granted this issue is far easier to see in weapon balance over suit balance |

Where do assaults fit into this?

I'm not fond of rock-paper-scissors, Team Fortress 2, Ghost Recon Phantoms, a bunch of others don't have it.

It's a bit more complicated than "Rock, Paper, Scissors" as there are multiple builds for each frameand some suits can do more than one thing. Not only that, but you can't have an RPS setup when there are 5 Different Frames.
For what it's worth however, there are multiple hard and soft counters that each role has against each-other. An example that comes to mind would be how a well positioned Commando is a counter to the Sentinel.

I think there should be a certain amount of rock-paper-scissors, but not so much that skill cannot overcome this.
That's a balance that's not easy to maintain. |

Rock, Paper, Scissors should not apply because it takes all the skill and fun out of the game (you win until you meet your counter, then you lose).
Dust should be more like Chess, where each "piece" has its advantages and disadvantages over other pieces and requires teamwork, coordination, and skill above all.
