What kind of sight upgrade? Seems fine to me.
All it needs is a slightly bigger clip.

It's low clip size and sight keep it from being a broadly used weapon. It's only comparable rifle is the scrambler which has less kick, better sights, far more rounds in the magazine, and works wonders against armor and shield alike.
It's literally used by everyone. Don't wanna nerf it (although I think it does far too well against armor), but I do think the TAR needs some love?! You won't see any "I went ham" videos on YouTube with?! I even asked Saxonmish to do one! Would love to see 83/1 with it, but you won't. It's hit detection in comparison with the scrambler is abysmal?!
The sight is far too bulky. I think you know if it were to be so much as slightly improved it would be a great rifle. Now the Burst fire variant is a lot better to use! Not a PC weapon, but a great weapon! It just hits hard against shields (not armor like the scrambler). It's actually in a good place though.
Giving the TAR 24 rounds, and an improve sight wouldn't make it OP, or even close to the scrambler?! Not better vision, but a sight that isn't so limiting to your field of view. It's simply too bulky.

Well the rail rifle is finally taken a seat in it's optimal range so I'm happy either way

24 rounds would make it insanely OP. It had those same stats back in 1.0 - 1.1, and it was wickedly overpowered. It made the Scrambler Rifle (which was at its peak performance back then) look like a toy.
You have to remember that even though the Scrambler has a 45 round magazine, it overheats after 18 or so rounds, putting it on par with the TacAR. Or the other way round I guess... Point is, that 24 round mag would be OP.
Please, make my Opus pretty...

They're far from on par right now. Also in 1.1 there was no rail or combat!

The TAR is in a PERFECT place right now, in relation to the other weapons. Used properly, it can overcome every other weapon. RR, BAR, CR, you name it.
But it's a skill weapon.
18 rounds, that's all you get. Make those rounds hit, and you're gold. Miss? And it will punish you like the bltch you are.
It's just fine.
I would prefer a different scope (with the same zoom level). I want the old electronic sniper scope back on it.

The SCR is not "literally" used by everyone. Hyperbole does not win arguments.

Not a slight increase, no. Remember that it has been OP not once but TWICE in history.
During those periods the nerfing did not address the real issues at first but the clip size was reduced TWICE. First from 48 (number may be wrong) to 30, then to 18. (somehow I recall a value of 24 but can't place it onto any patch)
After which, the heaviest nerfs of all (the hard rof and unnecessarily big kick) but clip size was left at reduced size.
Now after conservative buffs the dispersion and kick are at great limit to prevent op use, but damage per clip seems low (at least considering the skill (sights) or luck (hipfire) needed to hit.
So, while not absolutely needed the slight clip size re-increase could be on the table.

With the ScR I get 17 shots off with a DS3 before overheat; many players can only manage 15 or 16. The TAR puts out 1-3 extra bullets, and when you reach the end of the clip you just switch to sidearm, whereas a ScR user spamming like that is left holding their, ahem, throbbing weapon. These are big advantages for the TAR.
Quote:Giving the TAR 24 rounds, and an improve sight wouldn't make it OP, or even close to the scrambler?! This would be ridiculously OP and you know it. Why should TAR get 24 shots when the near-identical DPS ScR only gets 15-17 shots and has to deal with overheat on top of that? |

2 more rounds. That's it. 20 round magazine is the most I can tolerate with it. This weapon does too much damage per shot. 2 more rounds is potentially an additional couple hundred damage. Which is borderline excessive. It is my favorite weapon, and I'm the one that originally recommended the 18 round magazine. Knowing you have a limited number of shots is what helped to prevent its rampant dominance in CQC. The BAR wouldn't stand a chance in keeping the TAR in check, were the TAR to receive too generous a magazine size.
The TAR, in the right hands, can defeat the RR at range, defeat the BAR up close, and can down any suit in a matter of moments. Dare I say the only thing stopping it from being fotm is the mag size.
It forces discretion, which is ultimately why most players don't use it now. There aee a handful of us that are decent with it. You do NOT want a weapon like the TAR being easy to use.
A sight change I'm 100% on board with. I do NOT want to see a magazine size increase though. Lucky enough I'm willing to TEST a 20 round magazine. But 20 rounds is enough to down two proto heavies back to back.... no other weapon in the game can boast that, save the sniper rifle and HMG. I use this weapon ALL the time. Since day one. I know what it can do once it's out of control.

Have any of you ever actually ran this weapon??
