What are good tactics or ways to keep the Laser Rifle and Scrambler Rifle from overheating or fire longer before overheating? When I'm in a fight I'm focused entirely on killing the enemy and have a few times gotten so caught up in it that I end up overheating and killing myself just to get that last shot off? So is there any other way to avoid it other than using Amarr Assault? |

Simply put, micromanagement.

I have no experience with the Lazor, but with the Scrambler, it is kind of teaching yourself to fire at a regular interval rather than spam the trigger.
One thing you can also do is teach yourself to switch to a side arm after a few shots so you can continue firing while the ScR cools, or you can just completely finish them off with the side arm to avoid overheat.
I think any weapon that has the ability to overheat takes some time and feel for, so it does take some patience.

Here's a good guide for it: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=117063&find=unread
For your question, the Amarr Assault reduces the heat buildup of Laser Weapons (Scrambler Rifle and Laser Rifle) and would be a good suit to aim for should you want that bonus. Beyond that however, there isn't anyway other than keeping an eye on your heat gauge (what Blaziken said).
Guide is well written and covers a variety of usage, tactics and some example fittings to maximize the use of the Scrambler Rifle. Good luck!

If you're dedicated to those two weapons, then definitely get the amarr assault. Avoiding the overheat will come naturally when you get used to the weapons.
You can't fight in here! This is the war room.

Switch to your sidearm for the last shot. I'd recommend finding a sidearm that fits you best.
That is if you're in short to mid range. At long range don't take the risk: just duck in cover, reload and wait for your weapon to cool down.
Put your flags up in the sky.
And wave them side to side.

Well If myself or the other Classiarii like Aero or Malleus catch you on over the week end we can definitely help you out with that.
For both honestly the best answer is the Amarr Assault however it really does come down to micro management of your heat build up.
But there are lots of ways to work around this such as having a good powerful automatic side arm.

I have not been using the SCR for very long so I counted how many spam shots it would take to overheat and then will force myself to reload if i feel im getting close. It can be a bit risky in battle but i usually have my squad backing me up so i dont worry so much

As derp as it may sound if you're a newbie to ScR, count how many quick shots you get off before overheat. Do that for awhile until you get the instinct to pause or switch to sidearm.
And get Amarr Assault.
For the laz0r, similar 'technique': count the time until overheat and take a look at the magazine also.
The feel will come only with the usage.

I used to count my shots, personally, but atm the best way to use the SCR is to spam them all over the place with an Amarr assault.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

So is there any other way to avoid it other than using Amarr Assault? the key is to deal killing damage before you overheat. the main way to accomplish this is land a high % of your shots and mostly aim for the head. only fire if you are sure you will land the shots and take your time to line up the killing headshots. and with the scrambler rifle you want to be getting as much damage as possible out of the rifle to down targets fast before overheat. to get the most damage you will need the amarr assault and complex damage mods.

For the LR, unlike the scrambler, you basically always overheat at the same exact point in the clip (depending on whether or not you are using an Amarr assault).
So, you can just use it as a counter and stop when your clip gets to that point if you are not good about a mental clock telling you when to stop (sometimes hard when you are under fire).
For the ScR, I don't use it a ton, but I've always found that firing in quick bursts with short pauses keeps me from overheating as often...Though I still do, which is why I don't use it that much!
Oh, and you can read this too, may as well pimp it while I have the chance!

Well I'm getting better at not killing myself as much with the Scrambler Rifle however I'm getting the feeling that the Assault Scrambler Rifle is useless.

Its not exaclty useless, you just need to get used to the kick (which is actually most graphical, the rifle is more accurate than you think) and muzzle flash.
The big problem is all the armor everyone runs. If Rattati nerfs plates like he plans to in the next hotfix it will get a lot more effective.
