The Hotfix Delta Devblog says 'all Pistols now inflict increased headshot damage', but the Google doc doesn't give any numbers for sidearm headshot bonuses.
PS - would be nice to have this in game... |

Don't know the headshot bonus wouldn't bother since it hard to aim up a headshot with it and if you don't mind breaking your hand and dancing around for a couple seconds after firing it from 10 meters and missing the other guy go for it. That said I own a CreDron Ion Pistol because when it does hit, it hits pretty damn hard.

1) I believe the bonus was posted at one point during the discussion. It should be a 1.5x multiplier.
2) Interesting question. I have gk.0 assault to level 5, so I can't really say, as I only use the IP on those suits. But the dispersion is a bit high, so if it bothers you, level 2 or 3 sharpshooter should be plenty.
3) I, personally, love my little pistol quite a lot. I don't feel like it needs much more really. Perhaps increasing range of the charge, but overall, it's a great sidearm for CQC. In comparison to the ScP, I feel like the ScP has an advantage due to the massive headshot multiplier (4x if I'm right...) and the range. Damage and RoF wise, it's not as good as the IP, but if you engage at mid range most of the time and are steady enough to get a headshot often, go ScP.

I like it.
My only gripe is that rounds seem to disappear past 22 meters or so.

Yes, sharpshooter is worthwhile and the weapon is fun in general. Just get up close with it and spam away. Be careful with your charged shots though as they can both help and hinder.

It is broken it jamms 99% of the time after a high rate of fire making it very difficult to use as a primary weapon. I have retired mine for now and am playing scoutmando swarms/boltp.

Devoted ion pistol user here.
1. 1.5x, I believe. It's not that significant because it's a huge pain to line up headshots with the ironsights and the hipfire dispersion is too wide to regularly do it from the hip.
2. Yes. It's very much worth it. It's not as essential as it used to be but it's still very useful to ensure you can land hits properly. It's unbelievably frustrating to miss someone at 10m not because you aimed wrong, but because the shot flew wide.
3. Eh. SMG is still the best finisher, IMO. The ion pistol is a generally good weapon now except that it loses a huge amount of reliability because it has an annoying tendency to randomly overheat on you even if you'er not charging.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

I have one-shot this caldari assault with an ion pistol because a charged-shot to the head is OHK. Several times he used this fit but i would aim for his red chevron until he changed to a scrub shotgun scout

Having played with the weapon on an alt a bit yesterday i think it was 220% for shield headshot, so with the profile that means 200% headshot. Will make sure with some redline testing. 2. Yeah i did find it weird that i seemed to be missing a lot of seemingly perfect ads shots. 3. Im planning on giving up the smg because i want to use the scr as my main weapon and thought a semi-auto sidearm would pair better with it. As someone with experience with both, maybe you have some thoughts on that? I also personally have a problem with squeezing the fire button too quickly after pulling out an auto sidearm, which means nothing comes out and you die (yes i am a scrub). I did encounter the IP overheat in normal fire mode, but at least it lets you get some shots off first unlike my smg problem. ScP seems more reliable than either but when switching from scr the rof feels very slow. |

I love the iOP but would not recommend replacing the SMG with it on a ScR fit. Both of these weapons are biased towards shield damage and you really want something armor biased as a finisher. Since you already have the ScR for shield damage as your primary weapon the SMG would act as a great finisher, quickly tearing through armor. If you insist on using a semi-auto finisher go with the BP or the flay lock. Either would be a better complement to the ScR than the IoP.

Headshot bonus is 200-something%, making them better at OHKs if fully charged than a Scrambler Pistol or its assault variant (except the breach).
Sharpshooter is THE most important skill in the Ion Pistol skill tree.
Yes, I am loving it since the buff. I liked it before, I'm loving it now. Wish it had a tad bit more RoF since I go over it plenty of times leading to my death.
If you're looking for a good companion for your ScR, I suggest SMG or Flaylock since their armor weapons and have better hit detection than Caldari weapons. I am a purist, though, so I use the ScP with the ScR. |

As I said in the OP, I know about the shield bias, but the fact is it's the least shield biased semi-auto sidearm there is aside from the flaylock, which is impractical in many situations. (BP is not semi auto and is a bad finisher - you die while you charge it. It's strengths lie elsewhere.)
I'll be sticking with the SMG for now anyway since the merc pack still isn't in the EU store and I'm not buying a respec until it turns up. The SMG does work, I just feel I could find a little extra performance without a fiddly switch from semi-auto rifle to auto sidearm (and sometimes back again). |
