Good news: all of them are very effective. Bad news: CCP and community seem to forget the "S" slot means sidearm. Sidearms shouldn't be able to OHK, or be on par with primaries. Bolt pistol, Ion, Breach ScP, Flaylock, Novas... all capable of a OHK on majority of suits. Able to kill heavies as fast and effective as primaries... SMGs that have 5 seconds of continuous fire.
I think a damage nerf to sidearms needs to happen across the board. 80% would do it. This would put them categorically where they belong; secondary, backup weapons.
Also, Nova knives need to be moved to primary weapon side of skill tree. |

Are you a scout?
Are you complaining that a Bolter OHK'd you one a headshot?
Are you make some of this Up, like OHKing most suits?
Then I think you may be wrong.
A Bolter, or a Breach Flay, from my observations, only kill a scout or a very poorly build medium in one hit. Anything else requires 2-3 headshots. A Medium frame that is outfitted for combat (Some plates, some extenders) can take a few hits from a Bolter, or Ion, or ScP.
The SMG and the MagSec are designed for the sniper classes, who may need a good CQC weapon at a low Resource cost. They are quite good, but both lack range, and generally aren't as potent as say a dedicated AR, or CR.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.

Sidearms have become crutches. If you failed with your primary, you shouldn't be able to switch to a sidearm thats just as high a DPS. Even Commandos carry sidearms.
God forbid we ever think of different combinations of module use in this game. Good forbid you run under 1000 HP on a suit to crutch your lack of tactics and gungame. Funny, most proto assault suits have 8-9 slots and 7-8 of them are dedicated to HP. All the modules in this game, but armor stacking, shield stacking, and repair are the only ones used.
Typical example of players not wanting balance or common sense because they don't want their easy-button taken away.
I'll just continue to run double sidearms, because they fit for less and kill as good as any light weapon in the game.. |

SO... let's go from a "decent" 2 second or so TTK(assuming average 500 HP or so to a top of 1200)
To... a 10 second TTK.
Yeah. Like ANYONE will be caring to fit an SMG that does a whopping(!!!!!) 6.3 damage a shot, with a total clip damage of (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 500.
And what of flaylocks now? 40 damage direct with a terrifyingly bad 20-30 splash?
I TOTALLY can't see Commandos becoming the ultimate for all time FoTM. And screw sentinels, because when they run out of HMG or overheat, they're stuck with a 3 second TTK on a base Minmatar Scout.
Please, for the love of god, don't quit your dayjob, and don't ever think you could manage college.
Oh, and also: I run a 3.0 K/D(like i care about it anyways) for the month, and that is in a base HP MInja fitted with anything from a Laser Rifle to a Tactical Sniper(which i don't even use outside of 150M :D) My highest HP fitting (besides my single plate, single extender Min Heavy) is my MInmatar Assault with a damage mod, an extender, a recharger, a shield regulator, and a Damp/reactive plate. that there is a whopping 300/280 HP, for a grand total of 680 eHP.

Yes, Breach ScP is totally OP. It kills most players in one shot, if they are using the sniper starter fit and I accidentally hit them in the head.

Ion CAN ohk if you are charged up and using mods/prof'ed up, but only on shield militias and some scouts. I have prof 5 ion and use a basic mod but cannot 1 shot every suit... Only shield militias and some scouts... But that's on my alt. I have basic ion on this lad and a charge just breaks shield and touches armor on shield militias. Armor militias is a different case. |

Just as I said... People just can't handle having sidearms be backup weapons.
Every primary weapon in the game can kill any suit in one clip, or so close that a -80% sidearm would still finish off the enemy properly. . But I understand that people don't want to actually get good with their primary when they can switch to another weapon that has a 500+ DPS.

A better argument would be that the Rail Rifle is a better weapon even in CQC

Sounds funny, but I've seen it?! Two bolt pistols on a commando?! Some of these guys really are ***t with rifles so they spray and prey then use the bolt?! Bolt seems to be a better choice than the actual rifle for some?!

Question. Standard Military personal typically carry a rifle and a pistol as a backup. Does the pistol typically have 80% less stopping power than the rifle? If they were to shoot and kill someone with 1 bullet from the rifle, by your logic, since the pistol is a backup, it should take about 5 pistol shots to do the job, right? SIdearms are supposed to be weak, right?
