How is a new player supposed to get them? 10M ISK at 200,000 ISK a match will take 50 matches (of not purchasing anything, just starter fits). 100k LP would take anywhere from 200 to 300 matches for a new player I would guess given the possibility of losing the match. And again, that's not spending any of the LP the entire time. So now after somewhere between 250 - 350 matches the new player gets to buy a suit? Assuming he/she hasn't quit the game by then out of the frustration starter suits bring? And at what point is a new player still new? Or I guess the new player could drop 29 USD at the start, which actually isn't an unreasonable barrier of entry to a game, except this is a free to play game and most new player wil notl drop that much cash of the bat.
Not trying to bash on this, I really do like APEX, I just don't see the argument that they are for new players. If anything they are really only four beta who: a) want to look cool b) don't want sink more ISK into FW c) want something as they start training a new dropsuits command skill
Otherwise nothing. The idea that these are suits for new players to work on training their passive skills is a moot point since that is what starter fits do. Really all APEX are are starter fits with more slots. Doubt many new players will benefit from this as CCP hopes.

They are not for new players. For a new player to obtain one of these things they would have to either grind like a sonofabitch for months or shell out $30 on a F2P they just downloaded...
My advice to you, playa...

They may be intended for new players but they simply won't work for them.
If they were aimed at new players I would be terrified that the abysmal fittings would corrupt the innocent newbies and they'd never learn to fit properly.

Not only is it a grind for a new player to make 100k LP but its a double grind since they also need 10mill ISK.
They would have to grind both amounts individually.
New Player will be feeling ancient after that. |

I still question if there are New Players that actually become Old Players. Sure, "so many unique people a month" and "look at the number of accounts created a day!" but I am sure most of those are either alts, ISK farmers, or New Players coming in for a little while and potentially leaving for different games.
I thought the same thing though when I saw the prices. 100,000 LP and 10 million makes sense; they are earned by the vet. If a New Player is going to spend money in the game, they are far better off getting Boosters to actually be able to fit real Dropsuits. Basically, when it comes to "New Players didn't have a way to spend money to become slightly more competitive!" APEX Suits don't fix that problem.
Of course, I can imagine that a New Player might go more with "The fits are confusing, there is no tutorial, it is only online PvP, none of my friends play it, I am so far behind, there are only three game modes, and the game looks dated with a boring aesthetic. Also, I keep getting instantly killed by all these people but the respawn is too long to just shake it of and move on. Is the game supposed to be CoD/BF or Counter-Strike?" Or, more likely "this sucks, bye."
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

Judging by that fit you suggested to me earlier, you still haven't learned.

I almost have enough! I just need 90k LP! @Joseph You can find new players reaction quite easily on the local, normally something along the lines of "This game suck", "F*** this game" and "Why would anyone even play this"

Well granted most of the modules I would fit aren't in the game......
I need my heat sinks and resistance plating.
But yeah I embraced the notion yesterday of fast suit, good reps, moderate EHP.

$30 is a really steep price for a single dropsuit you're not allowed to change the fitting of.
It doesn't matter if the dropsuit is proto if the rest of the fitting is trash.

I would say the AUR method is probably going to be for new players, and the LP version will probably be for veterans looking for grinding suits.

Considering how quickly the first few levels of FW pass with wins and the ability to triple stack boosters to cut the grind down I do not think it is too much at all. Maybe now we will have people in FW that actually care about winning instead of stumbling in drunk and unsquaded.
As far as the ISK side of it they really need to fix payouts otherwise it will never be possible for a newbie to get that saved up. Currently the average payout for a newbie is probably on 50-75k isk even if they perform decently. |
