Hey, look what old-ass article I found cited on Wikipedia!

The issue here is that from what we've heard from CPM members, CCP still honestly believes that trying to have Dust be part of the EVE universe at launch is the reason why it didn't succeed. Yeah, the aspect of the game that got it the most attention from both the gaming world and the Press was apparently a mistake, and they should have just focused on "second-to-second" gameplay. At the end of the day, how many of us would have downloaded this game and spent money on AURUM if it wasn't made by CCP and part of the EVE universe? If this was just another shooter by some company no one had heard of before, how many of us would still be playing it? But then again, If you focus on melding two games together, you get a jumbled mess of MMO, and FPS, and many times, because of the lack of focus on the game, and instead on getting EVE and DUST to align, when we aren't dealing w/ that. If they said "We are making an FPS Game in the EVE universe -STOP- We would like to integrate it with EVE" then I think the game would be better. Not Linked to EVE, mind you (Like we are anyway :-P), but at least with the lore and the background of EVE, and perhaps more polished FPSing, or MMOing, instead of trying to get all three to coexist, with neither of them perfect. The Focus on Development, to me, should have been 1-FPS 2-MMO 3-EVE/DUST Link. If they made a great Shooter, but it lacked a solid link, would still be playing it? Prolly. If they made a **** shooter that was very well linked to EVE, would we still play it? Me, Prolly not. Because you wanted to be something you're not.

I believe they'd have some connections, like PC and FW are currently, though more rewarding for Eve players. Just another thing they could do to make some extra ISK or just do something different, but nothing universe changing. This is also the future I see for Dust and Legion. Little connections like an exploration mini game/ PvE (Eve pilot takes a vat of biomass/spawn unit to a site and defends it while the Dusties fight off defense systems/whatever, both get their respective rewards), but nothing like taking over Titans or stations or something. Dust is there! I was real! Dear diary, Rattati senpai noticed me today~

There is NO WAY in hell I would have bought a PS3 just for dust if it was some generic shooter. The game is how I expected, a little better in some ways and a lot worse in others. Probably doing the eve integration was a fantasy , CCP send months trying to fix the game , but never got close to doing any meaning integration . Besides work would have to be done on the Eve side or basically from Iceland too, but I never thought that Eve devs made it a big priority.
