Any advice? The head set I had no longer connects to anything. And we all know how important having a mic is in this game. I'm a college student, so I can't afford anything super nice. The headsets i've looked at on amazon that I could afford have vary poor customer feed back, so I thought id ask here since this is the game I would be getting it for.
So what kind of microphone do you suggest I get?

Well what are you willing to pay? Personally I have the Playstation 2.0 Bluetooth Headset Urban Camouflage. Fits to one ear with adjustable ear piece, works up to ~30 ft, can hear and talk with it clearly. The only downside is that it's comfortable so you forget to take it off. I think it goes around 30 dollars, I've had it for over a year.

This is the best one under $30:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-Refurbished-Playstation-3-PS3-Bluetooth-Gaming-Mobile-Headset-CECHYA-0076-/191108611966
I've had mine for 2 years and haven't had a single issue. As long as you aren't playing for 8 hours straight you won't ever have to charge it in the middle of a game (as long as you put it on the charging dock every time you take it off)
Features: -HQ audio and you sound crisp and clear to everyone else -Mute button that is awesome -Adjustable volume buttons on the side -Ability to use the mic while docked and charging (voice comms will then play through your speakers) -Instant recognition with any PS3 device, quick and easy setup -Doubles as a bluetooth for your phone if you ever need to -Charges with a mini-usb just like a PS3 controller (you can't use voice comms this way though) -Detachable ear clip (slightly uncomfortable until you get used to it...only downside to this mic IMO)

I'm having a related question. I'm using USB keyboard and mouse in my PS3 and they take both of the two available USB-ports. I've been looking for Bluetooth headset but they seem to use USB transmitter/receiver instead of the PS3 built in Bluetooth capability. Have I been understanding this wrong or is there really no way to have USB keyboard and mouse plugged in and to have a headset at the same time?

Logitech G230
I have the G430, which is just a 7.1 Surround Sound version of the G230 (Note: 7.1 Surround doesn't work with the G430 on the PS3, I got the G430 so I can have 7.1 Surround on my PC)
Pros: It's comfortable, has a nice look, braided cable, and is durable.
Cons: The "sound cancelling" mic is very sound cancelling, if you're a quiet talker you'll have to speak up.

Just plug it into the front of your PS3 and now you have 5 USB inputs.

I wondered if I could find at a lower price. I didn't find it, but I did find an almost identical headset for exactly $20.

I have the 7.1 virtual surround sound Sony headset but it's a bit more than 30 dollars so I can't really reccomend it.
As for the USB issue maybe look for something like a USB splitter. Though personally I'd just use the controller. Idk how anyone can play a shooter with a keyboard or mouse. It's unruly. Shooters and controllers are always the right way to go.

I have my PS3 at my desk with my computer as I use my computer monitor for playing it. I went with a corded mic from walmart, about 22 dollars. Works fine.
I also give a +1 on the splitter. It is what I use to plug in all the various stuff I have there, like my keyboard, mouse, headset, and controller charger. Non-PS3 branded splitters work fine. Mine is just a cheap little one from Fry's Electronics that I got at the bargain bin.
