Vehicles don't really have a role right now, rather a role worth contributing to the battlefield. Sure, they AV ok, but as soon as the first uplink goes down, boom, all transports are obsoleted.
I want to have a reason for vehicles to be in the match, to really matter, to have a powerful impact on the gameplay, a reason for AV to feel proud that they just forced that dropship to egress, to flee. Something other than, dang, he got a way and turns into F*#& yeah! All right team, we just pushed that **^^ out of here, take everything!
What I propose is simple, a simple solution to a complex challenge that has existed for a while now. That doesn't mean it will be easy to implement, or not cost dev hours that I can't possibly understand. Simple does not mean easy.
This great big change to vehicles, to make them matter, to make AV matter, is a change to equipment and its functioning. The change is three fold: Equipment deployed by a dropsuit stays active as long as that dropsuit is active on the field. As soon as the dropsuit is terminated/swapped the equipment deactivates, but is STILL ON THE FIELD doing nothing.
Deactivated equipment reactivates as soon as an allied vehicle comes within 100 meters of the equipment and stays active until the vehicle leaves the 100m radius or is destroyed or the equipment is consumed.
Now vehicles have a true role, a true mobile support platform, tanks have a role, dropships have a role, even lavs have a role. Every one of them supports the team, and are needed. That means AV is needed to rid the field of them, and AV vehicles are also needed.
I believe this is the greatest, most needed touch to finally combine vehicle and infantry gameplay, to unify and bring them together as a team. Be grateful there is a tank on the point, keeping your uplinks alive, thankful that that rail tank just chased off that dropship that was powering the enemy uplinks and nanohives. Be thankful for that milita swarm newberry that just saved you from being crushed by spammed equipment by chasing off that tank. Be thankfull for that rail tank playing sentinel on the hill behind delta, keeping the sky clear for you to take the point and power your equipment.
Enjoy teamwork. have fun. Call in vehicles with a reason, with a Role.

I don't like this idea. Vehicles should not be used to bounce between different pieces of equipment to reactivate them. This is besides the fact that this wouldn't be very feasible for anything in a tight space. However, I do think that there should be a shift in roles. I think that we need some type of "vehicle objective" - something that only a tank has the power to take down, or only a dropship can outmaneuver.
Consider this idea right off of the top of my head:
Each null cannon has some "power house" to it that allows it to maintain its rate of fire. This power house is an extremely durable bunker, but it can be broken by tank fire. If it breaks, the corresponding null cannon fires at a much slower interval. Infantry logis can repair this powerhouse with rep tools to restore the null cannon to its normal firing interval.
I believe that this type of solution gives tanks something to do that isn't slaughter infantry. Destroying some ultra-hardened bunker (Which can be repaired) gives tankers an objective to capture, and an objective that can be "recaptured" (rebuilt in this case) by the enemy. Thus, they have something to do.
For regular dropships, we could have the null cannons act like actual weapons and run on ammo. The ammo for a null cannon would need to be replenished by ferrying over a continuously re spawning "package" that could be taken by LAVs or Dropships. For ADS, we could allow them to shoot the missiles that bombard each MCC out of the sky in order to reduce the damage that their MCC takes.
My ideas are obviously very rough. The sentiment of this idea should be: "How can we create a vehicle analogue to objectives?"

If I had to suggest a real and meaningful roles for HAV vehicles it would be the following
- To provide massive fire support from a mechanized platform - To provide the ultimate means of anti ground vehicle based fire power from a ground based platform - To eliminate and destroy with ease all sub HAV class ground vehicles upon successful deliverance of fire power - To directly damage and destroy key objectives and entrenched positions - To support and screen infantry against small arms fire

This is essentially what I'm saying should be the primary and secondary objectives for Vehicles. There needs to be a "Key Objective" for HAVs to destroy. We could give them large cannon shots instead of super machine gun blaster turrets. Then they have an actual job to do that doesn't focus on wiping out infantry. They have the option to do that, but they would not be optimized for it.

Indeed. It would require an turret rebalance as Quasar Storm has suggested since any higher level tier HAV than standard and our turrets simply won't be able to deal with them.
It would also require adjusting the current Blaster Turret and pushing it away from AI and into the realms of AV.

I was really curious what you were going to say/type. I was really engrossed by your passion (I mean no insult, I am being honest) and interested where you were going with the equipment. When I read the bit about being used to reactivate equipment, I stopped reading. I didn't know what to think. I read it again and when I was sure that you meant for vehicles to be a 100 meter battery so Infantry could drop equipment and change out, I just kind of laughed.
"You are suggesting that Pilots are to be given a role so Infantry could abuse equipment."
There are some problems with this: 1. The role of the vehicle is not clearly seen. When you see a Sentinel sitting in a small room with a Logibro behind them giving them the yellow beam, it is obvious what is happening. A Tank just sitting there is no obviously keeping your equipment spam going. 2. The role is pointless at many times. The suits that dropped the equipment may still be on the field and the tank is acting no differently than what it currently does; kill infantry and fight other vehicles. No difference. 3. Maps that are heavily unfavored to vehicles, just as Gallente Research lab or the new map just added, end up completely nullifying the bonus that a vehicle is giving you. 4. Giving Vehicles a role by inconveniencing everyone else is a rough proposition. 5. The role is quite lame. I would rather keep it in the quasi-role of "kill infantry and fight off other vehicles" when compared to "I am an iPhone charger."

I'd love to be the ipwn charger, especially when I know that I'm responsible for keeping our uplinks alive, say all those uplinks ontop of a in the gallente research facility, would be a shame if someone chased me away...
