I just deleted Dust so I can reinstall it fresh without any problems. However it seems I ran into a wall regarding Playstation's update process. It won't let me update the store and the system is telling me I need to update the store in order to continue using it. I updated the PS3 itself to see if that fixes the problem, but nothing worked. I think I'm gonna have to format my hard drive. What do you think?

If its telling you to update store then that what you probably got to do, I don't think formatting will fix it.

I deleted it last night so hope I can install it when I get home from work without any issues.
I noticed a patch for the store was automatically uploaded to my PS3 last week - will also be rebuilding the database when, hopefully I have reinstalled Dust.
These should solve any issues from what I've read. |

Read the op again. I'm doing just that but it won't do the update. There appears to be an error in the system that's preventing the Playstation Store from updating. But I need the update in order to access the PS Store. This is odd.

Great, I got bigger problems now. Turned out I only downloaded the base client but I still have to download the update separately. After trying the update, it won't download. Keeps giving me an error message.

I called Sony, Comcast, and even Belkin (for my router) and so far it looks like I might have to upgrade my router (it's quite old) because entering the TCP and UDP ports given to me by Sony are not accepted by my router. Is there a last-chance effort I can do to get the Dust 514 update before I have to resort to opening my wallet for a new router?

Can you bypass the router? Plug strait into the modem? If it is a wireless router you might need a very long cable.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Didn't work. I can connect the LAN cable directly to the modem but the modem won't take it without the router. It looks like I might have to format my HDD as a last resort. What's strange about this whole thing is that I have had this router for the past 2 years and it never gave me problems with any update. On top of that, I can still log in and see my friends and able to use browser on the PS3. I'm just not able to update.

I remember having this issue months ago but I didn't pursue it further. It simply rectified itself eventually.

For me, this has been going on for a week when I was unable to access Netflix because I couldn't update it.

Looks like this is much deeper than I thought.
I just formatted my HDD and started with something simple like the PlayStation Store. I had to download and install it which worked out fine, but then it told me I needed an update to use it so I went ahead and tried to download it. It failed. The update just won't download. Honestly, I don't think my router is the problem. Something is seriously wrong here.
I can go ahead and download Dust and then install it, but that's only for downloading the base client. It will still ask me to download the separate update which I know it won't let me.
EDIT: Time to call Sony once again.

I just finished talking with Sony. Apparently there is a weekly scheduled maintenance going on on this particular day of the week coincidentally. It won't be finished until about 5pm so I have to wait a couple of more hours before I can go ahead and download any updates. In the meantime, they walked me through rebuilding the database for good measure but they told me to hold off on downloading anything until the scheduled maintenance is complete on their end.
