1.9 will include a new version of the client and will require re-installation.

Hmm... Maybe I come from nowhere... But why have we to unistall and re-install DUST with 1.9 ? I've installed DUST for more than 1 year, and I've never unistall it, but I don't have any big problem... Why will it change with 1.9 ? (I know I'm still a noob )

(I know I'm still a noob ) well cause typically the cache of files gets out of control.. the DL is maybe 2800mb but people have had additional cache files bogging down performance over 4000mb worth so like 5.8gb instead of a clean 2.xgb

the DUST client is MUCH bigger than 2 GB.
EVE Online is what you get when engineers attempt to create "fun" without consulting someone who comprehends the word.

Looking forwards to 1.9 though I must say. I just hope it is all its cracked up to be. im takeing into account unforeseen circumstances.. didnt 1.8 arrive like 1 or 2 hours late or so i recall?
so im guessing the 3h30min downtime may be up to 5 hours or so long.

I've done it twice in my Dust career. Once went from over 3GB to just over 2GB. Yesterday went from 2.8GB to 2.3GB. Menus are snappier.

I heard that a fresh reinstall cuts down on the chance of getting corrupted assets or coding. But I don't know anything about computers or video games aside from how to play them.
