I got asked in game last night by a buddy how damage modules work. He asked whether sidearm damage modules affect just the weapon in the sidearm slot, or all weapons of the sidearm type that are equipped. At the time he was running a dual scrambler pistol fit and wanted to know if both weapons would receive the bonus from his damage modules. I don't know the answer to this and now I'm curious.

I jut used a fit like this and its hard to tell. either one may be correct but there was one time when i used the sidearm slot gun and it either was modded or i just ha better shots.

Type. So if you have two sidearms (one in light slot and on in sidearm slot) then sidearm mods affect both.
Following this, if you were to put a light weapon in a heavy slot then you'd want to use a Light damage mod.

It affects the type, not the slot. I run Ishukone Nova Knives strictly on the light slot and the sidearm damage mods are still able to enhance the damage.

They effect any Sidearm that's fitted onto the dropsuit, regardless of which slot they're in.

Since I received great answers, I'll ask another damage module question. Do the stacking penalties affect all damage modules equipped, or just modules of the same type (ie, heavy, light, or side arm)?
For that matter, can you get around stacking penalties by using different tiers of damage modules (ie, basic, adv, or proto)?

For that matter, can you get around stacking penalties by using different tiers of damage modules (ie, basic, adv, or proto)? It only effects modules of different types.
For example, if you were to have a Sidearm and Light Weapon Damage Mod fitted onto the dropsuit, none of them would incur stacking penalties. (The description also says that the Stacking Penalty only apply to the module of the same type).
And no, you can't get around Stacking Penalties by using different tiers of Damage Modules. Even if you could however, you'd still have a better damage output by stacking higher tiered modules.
For more info on Stacking Penalties and a nifty tool to calculate them, see here.
