HEREGÇÖS A MISSING TOPIC..!!! This subject does not come up enough in the Dust forum, and thatGÇÖs a shame. There ought to be regular coordination and arrangements made on this site between Capsuleers and Merc (corp or not) for anyone who is ready to get into PC full-time.
There seems to be a slight stigma attached, that GÇ£PCGÇ¥ matches are really for hardcore merc players who are in corps, or who know how to play this game like Navy Seals. In reality, I think a lot of us are competently ready for the tasks involved in PC combat, but we donGÇÖt know it, or donGÇÖt know how to get invited or fitted into one. IGÇÖve been told by other players that IGÇÖm very ready for PC , and IGÇÖve been told it is NOT for corp-only or extremist-squad membersGÇö"itGÇÖs for any individual player whose become proficient at her/his favourite trade or role, and appears good at working with others."
I am one player who is guilty of not following up enough on GÇ£how to play PCGÇ¥ and where to go to get involved.
What has been the progress of PC play in Dust? Is the talk about the GÇ£lagGÇ¥ all true? WhatGÇÖs the process in which you get connected with Capsuleers for a match?
Are any players who would like to try their hand at PC, but donGÇÖt want to be a corp member just to be in one?
And (without giving away any vital secret details about your battle plans) are any corps or squads out there who would are interested in accommodating lone drivers, pilots, heavies etc for just a few PC bouts, with no sign-ups and member-dues involved?
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

The real trick is to send messages to FCs and try to play pubs with them if they can see you're a good player they will likely want to play you.
They'd probably much rather recruit you though to be honest.
One of the biggest misconceptions about PC isn't really that the winning team is "better" but rather that they have likely been playing together longer and have built up good strategies and can work together better which is why the older corps almost always do better than newly established ones.
If you're really interested in playing a PC, send me a mail in game and I'll do my best to get you pulled into a more easy one to see how you do

I'm very interested in playing PC. The last I played PC was in a corp battle between 843 vs KEQ on March 2013.
My roles are from 1 to 5.
1) Logi I rep and throw ammo. 2) Heavy >:) 3) Asaault 4) If someone needs a tank then I can call my and you can get in. I have plenty of tanks to spare. 5) Scout but not as often.
I can play today at 6pm Western time. Over the weekend mostly at night. I have a Mic but it just dies really quick.

The biggest barriers to PC for a group of players that have never been involved in PC are the following:
1) Field Commander - someone who can heard cats 2) Consistently having 16-30 fully proto'd out players online when the battles actually take place (it all sounds good on Monday when you and your friends say you'll be able to do a battle on Tuesday, then for some weird reason the match isn't until Wednesday). 3) Getting players to understand that they HAVE TO do what the FC is telling them to do. When you have people that chase red dots when they are supposed to be defending the objective it allows for scouts to come in and wreck your party. 4) Stomach losing - it takes a while to get it all down, especially the FC part. 5) Players getting pissed when they aren't chosen for the match. This happens A LOT. Even when a dude goes 1-15, 2-12, 5-18 as a heavy, he just can't understand why you are going with another heavy instead.

Progress - Well, the importance of holding a district has been completely removed and most players who would be capable of creating a coalition against Tso's have left, so the current MH Superpower will most likely be in power for a very long time.
However, there have been a lot of new corporations in PC and some which used to be weak have gotten stronger. Hopefully thanks to the SP increases we'll see even more people in PC.
Lag - It used to be really bad, but unless you're Scouts aren't doing their jobs and destroying equipment your framerate should be fine. Unless of course, you're at the Gallente Research Facility (don't ever play on this map).
Capsuleers - The only way to have a Pilot drop Orbital Strikes is to have them join your Corp or Alliance. Considering how a lot of PC groups have EVE Support, I suggest joining an Alliance as one Ship won't do much on against a Fleet.
As for your other two questions, THUNDERGROOVE addressed them perfectly.
