Right now the prices between the different types of equipment vary greatly and create more cunfusion for a new player especially those looking to go into the logistics role. I'll start by giving educated assumptions of the most used equipment on a Logistics Dropsuit.
(Intentionally didn't add remotes, proxies or cloaks in the comparisons as you wouldn't use them on a standard, all-around Dropsuit.)
1. Repair Tools 2. Uplinks 3. Nanohives 4. Active Scanners
The usage for uplinks and nanohives is probably the smallest gap and it could easily be the other way round but this won't make a huge difference anyway.
Now it is in price order starting from the cheapest. I pretty much averaged the cost between all variants to make a decision:
1. Drop uplinks 2. Repair Tools 3. Active Scanner 4. Nanohives
And finally the amount of war points netted on average for what your doing, starting from the equipment that gives you the most:
1. Repair Tool (no risk, lots of reward stay behind a heavy. Virtually unlimited usage) 2. Uplinks (these are in a good place right now) 3. Active Scanner (some may argue that nanohives give more warpoints, however this will change in 1.9 with team vision) 4. Nanohives (now this is actually absured, they are the most expensive piece of equipment, have probably the highest CPU PG usage, limited to the amount of carried and placed. Only give 10 warpoints per resupply)
First of I'd like to see all the prices normalised around the costs of rep tools as a base. There is no reason for equipment to cost so much and decreasing the price isn't going to make equipment spam more frequent as the price drops won't be huge and most people equipment spam when they know they are safe so ISK costs aren't a big deal. The price discrepancy is just misleading as it automatically would make a new player assume that x is better than y because it's cheaper or x is better than y because it cost more.
Second of the resupply warpoints need to be increased to 20 or 25 warpoints, giving someone ammo is just as important as repping them and would encourage more people to use them. Coupled with the idea I saw in another thread to show people who need ammo, I think it would be a a great idea, when low on ammo to mark a logi on the minimap who is carrying nanohives. The amount of times I have dropped hives to people who need it, for them to just run away is annoying. This happens most frequently whilst using repping hives which brings me to my third point.
Repping hives either need to be buffed or the rep tools need to be tuned down. There is no point carrying rep hives when you can just get a rep tool, I'll list the advantages of carrying a rep tool over hive:
- More HP/s is transferred. - Unlimited Usage - Gets warpoints instantly (don't have to wait for the blueberry to stand on it like with hives) - Person being repped doesn't have to worry at all. - The rep cycles are faster with the repair tool - Person being repped isn't restricted to the circular area whilst getting repairs. - Repair tools require drastically decreased CPU and PG costs compared to rep tools. - Cheaper
There are two ways to fix this, the first is definetely a plan A and would bring balance greatly. 1. CAPACITOR ON REP TOOLS!! This would help so much and wouldn't be hard to implement, simply give all rep tools a capacitor that is shown through a heat build up bar or as ammunition. A way to increase the capacitor after it had been fully depleted would be to either use nanohives (A bit too easy really), must be by a supply depot or introduce a new type of nanohives specifically and only for increasing the capacitor of repair tools. This brings more strategy and tactics to using the repair tool other than sticking behind a heavy and just following him with no risk.
I'd love to hear feedback from a dev on this and the community. Time to clear up the mess as we move towards a more refined a cleaner marketplace and DUST 514 as a whole with Uprising 1.9. |
