Why do people seem to have no problem standing in front of my breach assault rifle until I kill them, but refuse to stand there and take it from my laser rifle, instead they run for cover like scared little girls?
Why!? 
I want LR kills damn it! Take it like a man!

because its a single visible beam where as breach rifle only shows like 1 tracer per 2 or 3 shots so its hard to spot where shots come from befoe you can move out of the way

Nope, that's not it. I get plenty of face to face kills with the breach, and I know that they know where I am because they are firing back at me.

I started using laser rifle over 2 years ago (I was using laser rifles long before they were so "cool" that CCP broke them). I am familiar with how they work. Just took a break from them for a while, and find people's aversion to them to be strangely funny. But thanks for the sentiment.

My ******* trick was:
Heat the laser near the target.
He will feel like you are missing and gain confidence.
Move the laser on him when it's hot and melt his face in 0.5 seconds.

The LR is instantly identified. The tick of alpha damage from the BrAR is far harder to identify quickly. It's the amount of time to identify what's hitting you that's leading to the difference in reactions and the results you report, I think.
That, and I think the reaction to the LR was burned into any vet back when it was instant death. lol |

No sure of BrAR range, but LR range is beyond most other weapons. Only RR and Snipers can out-range it. Therefore, if you're using a LR correctly then I know I'm insta-dead unless I get cover quick. Anybody looking to see where that funny little light beam is coming from will learn to 'scream and run' in a hurry. |

Yep, some of us remember the laser rifle overlords. Even when CCP needed the LR to flashlight status I still always had a guttural reaction to skedaddle.

Cause laser rifle stings damnit!
Judging from when i use it, its the sound when its hitting that makes people run. It burns and stuff...=3
And yeah I remember when it was instant death so thats likely it too...

I once saw several lasers focus on a Gunlogi... it died... very quickly... from full health... Is there anything more terrifying?

Those days didn't burn a terrifying image in my head, I'm guessing it is because I was the one using it at the time. I was fine about the Laz0rs until now...

Perhaps the Laser is one of the greatest "Shock" weapons in the game?
It's stranger than the others, it's less used that the others. It sounds different to the others.
Maybe the answer is somewhere in there, it's a shock/panic inducing weapon.

I killed a gunlogi once, with my Viziam, back in Codex (they only had like 800 armor back then). He was pretty low on low on shields, and by the time I got through his shield my laser was pretty hot, and his armor just kinda went poof. That was back before they changed it so that light weapons can't really do any damage to tanks.
