dear mercenary's As my final year project for university I am trying to create a dust 514 online resource, as a first step I need to talk to some stakeholders and find out what your requirements for a site would be. I will give you a brake down of what I have so far.
overview (Item in italics are sections of the site the site will be a resource for players to search a database of items, user can create an account, there will be a skills planner where players can select the skills they currently have and then create a plan of skills they wish to get in the future and finally a fittings screen to test fitting based ether on current or planned skills.
functionality
database of items
- browse database
- refine items displayed by (type, gear level)
- compare two items side by side
account
- create account
- shut-down account
- reset password
- create up to 3 characters
- store the minimum amount of user informations possible
skills planner
- layout similar to that found in game
- update current skills
- update planned skills
- display the number of skill point needed to reach planned skills from current skills ( maybe brake down into number of days passive/ weeks active capping, with and with out boosters)
- as current skills are updated planned skills should update automatically if needed
fittings screen
- create/save/delete fittings
- show states for fittings using base stats/current skills/planned skills
- theory craft mode (all skills maxed)
- each fitting will be tagged as ether: usable, planned or theory and should be easily distinguishable before loading
Ok that's what I want to do I fear I may have bitten off more than I can chew for a 1st interactive web site but its set in stone now is there anything you would like to see in a dust web resource I will do my best and I have grander plans IF I can do this bit but I'm not going to go into them because I am currently laser focused on these bits.
thank you for taking the time to read |

If it is your first interactive site then it will be a rough road ahead, I hope you can tone down your first attempt because it is a lot of work for a first project, but if you're not alone or are fiercely focused you can do it.
I'd recommend you check my site (on sig), check hydraSlav's tool, check dust.thang.dk, check stuff514.com, check wiki.dust514.info, use them, play with them, then after you've gotten intimately familiar with them find things we missed or lacked doing, things we got wrong or barely right on our own attempts, then make yours better ;)
Good luck o7

Just recreating the overview is going to be lots of work. What language will you use?

Good luck o7 Firstly sorry for not replying sooner and Thank you for your feedback and suggested research It has helped. I will keep your advice in mind and if later into the project the need arises I will reduce the scope. I can see its complex but I hope to learn a lot from doing it.

My site will not look as pretty but the main thing I want to get right in the node based skills navigation for the skills planner. I'v gone into the project planning on using JAVA script and PHP but as part of other modules I'm leaning ASP.net so I may move over to that. I'm currently modelling the project but will have to make this choose soon.
