BIoody 619 wrote:basically this took a while to finally getting known your Roles in this game. before I started naming the Roles If I started mess up on the roles comment back so I get fix or thumb up on this topic. ANYWAYS back to the Roles this game has the exact roles from DC universe online . YOU have the basics of Tanking ( Higher defenses and health ) DPS aka ( Damage per second and burns enemies ) Controller ( Give out power to team mates ) And lastly a healer ( Give out heal to team mates ) Right comparing that to Dust 514 You have your Heavy Frame Players: Commando ( able hold 2 Light weapons, Tanked massive Damage and the introduction of damage ) Sentinel ( able Hold a Heavy weapon, Tanked massive damage and the introduction of damage ) That your Tanking Gear right there although you also have these other Roles: Medium Frame Players: Assault Aka your (DPS) Logistic ( Give out heals and revives fallen team mates ) That your DPS and Healing Roles Lastly there are only 2 Roles Left: Light Frame Players: Scout (I'm not sure for the Role ) Pilot ( The one who controllers the vehicles ) how you enjoyed this topic Thumbs Up please Thanks I wouldn't go as far as to say exact roles. On top of it, from what I hear in your post, DCUO has what they would call the "RPG Trinity": Tank, DPS, Healer dynamic. Admittedly I haven't played DCUO so again, I'm pulling strictly from your post.
The "Controller" essentially sounds like the "Buff" or "Buffer" class. In World of Warcraft, these were spread amongst different magic classes, with Paladins giving an "Aura" and physical classes giving status buffs through "Shouts". Final Fantasy I believe had a class that was a dedicated buffer as well, but few were able to bring out the full potential of the class.
For the most part though the "Buffer" class has generally been split into the three types above, with the tank giving defensive buffs, DPS giving offensive buffs, and healers giving out a combination of the two. Very rarely do you see games now that has a dedicated buffing class.
Anyhow, there's no buffing class in Dust. If there was we'd be getting dangerously close to Borderlands (I think?).
Sentinels: Arguably, their job is to tank, play point defense, and they even have bonuses geared toward mitigating incoming damage of certain types with blast damage mitigation across the board. However, there is another role they fit into well that many people don't think of:
Dropship Gunner. When your pilot is hovering and you are pumping your preferred Small Turret type into enemies, the opposition with sometimes engage the gunner, attempting to kill him and knock him out of the seat. While the gunner's mobility is strictly dependent on the pilot's skill, a Sentinel suit can be a great choice of offensive bringing-the-rain style of gameplay while having extremely resilient defenses. Add in your turret's DPS and great pilot's skill and it can be an effective death machine.
Commandos: They have DPS written all over them, so I can't argue with you there, with Assaults though, while receiving bonuses to certain weapon types as well as reduction in CPU/PG for weapons and grenades, the Assaults can shift around a little in their roles. They could "DPS" (Damage Mods) or they could "Tank" (Shields/Armor Mods), but they could also have regenerative fits (Healer maybe?) and again, they could speed tank (Biotic modules). It all depends on the fit.
Logistics: There was a term that surfaced some time ago: "LogiBro". Obviously, the term takes the term "Logistics" and was a nod toward people who would properly support their team, a "Bro". These players (myself included, albet in BPO form; I was a Forge Gunner during closed beta) would have the "Holy Trinity": 1) Nanite Injector to revive fallen allies (friends, nakama, comrades, etc.) 2) Repair Tool to repair any armor damage sustained and bring them to full health and 3) Nanohives to resupply your allies with ammunition and prepare for incoming attacks. This screams "Healer" to the loudest extent right?
However, the game launched and Uprising brought changes to the game. Graphic modications, and better enhanced UI and spawn interface, Uplinks finally became viable (extremely buggy back in closed beta and few people used them), the Logistics class went through a few overhauls, equipment got changed. Logistics eventually became "Logistics" in the true sense of the term and not a "Healer" although, LogiBros still exist (hello!).
Yes, my main LogiBro suit is extremely similar to a healer, but I have other specialized suits that I bring to the field to support my team that is very unlike a healer. For instance, my "AWACS" suit is a Logi gk.0 with 4 scanners. You need battlefield intel with extremely sharp scans? You got it. Not sure where they are? Bring all 4 scanners out and get a Wide Area Scan to find them. And once I've found you, you will be scanned for the rest of the battle or until your clone's termination.
My other suit is "Uplinks", a Logi ak.0 with the ability to deploy 7 uplinks. When I'm wearing the suit and you spawn on my uplinks, they go down from 11 seconds to 6 seconds with one going from 8 to 4 seconds. Fast respawn rate and the ability to deploy from strategic locations is this suits ability.
Finally, I have yet another Logi mk.0 fitting that is strictly ground AV. 3 levels of Proximity Grenades and a Nanohive. Place all of my Proxies near an entrance/vehicle choke point. LAVs and HAVs blowing up left and right. So alpha. Much WP. Wow. ??? Profit.

Scout: Ah yes, the scout. It's pretty much like the Rogue or Assassin classes, with the exception of the Minmatar Scout which is Dust's version of a Rogue. However, again with fittings, you can build a tankier scout which would function somewhat similar to a mini-Assault. Or you could build it to be an infiltration type, stacking Profile Dampeners, a good cloak and Uplinks. Or you can drop the uplinks for Remote Explosives for both offensive and defensive capabilites. And then you have EWAR which is something very absent from traditional RPGs since you know where your enemy is at all times (again, pulling my experience from WoW, FF, Guild Wars, etc). Passive Scans can help your team with passive intel on the enemy. Scouts can also dampen themselves, like stated above, but to extreme measures where they can't be picked up by anything other than visual contact.
Pilots: While pilots suits aren't implemented just yet, the Logistics ak.0 could be seen as a "Pilot" suit of sorts. The pilot could be driving a tank or dropship while still providing the passive bonus to Uplinks and aren't as prone to dying as if they were boots on the ground.
I believe however this game's biggest strength is it's customization. While there are many "roles" in this game, there are ways to break it out of it's role and surprise the enemy. For instance, just the other day, I got run over by someone while I was in a scout. It was a shotgun. I thought it was scout. It was an Minmatar Assault that had stacked Kinetic Catalyzers. He sacrificed armor for speed. Color me surprised.
Anyways, just wanted to put out there that, yes, thinking of each suit type as a "role" certainly helps out, but don't let that limit you. Dust allows you the ability to customize suits in ways people might not think of.
