[Rant - Skip Below for actual content!] When I first used the Bolt Pistol, I hated the damn thing. The sidearm was hard to aim with and wasn't powerful enough to straight up front people. Even at range, had to sink most of my shots to be effective- but having six shots in the clip was a nice buffer. Even if I missed and got rushed, I almost always had an extra shot or two to push them back. In extended CQC engagements, the extra shots would give me a better chance to make the kill, not guarantee it. I did, however, appreciate a sidearm with such raw precision; making those key shots to knock someone felt amazing.
Sure- the old BP didn't have raw power. Using it meant I had to work to finish the kill; sometimes landing my first 2-3 shots would leave the enemy with only a little health left. Going toe-to-toe with Shotgunners took skill and strategy. The combat required me to understand the hip-fire, damage (knowing I could not OHK), and ammo of my weapon; I had to pick shots and know which shots I could afford to miss. More often than not, I could begin combat with the Bolt Pistol unless I caught my foe by surprise, but was still able to make use of the BP as an effective finisher.
I am gone for a couple months and I return to find my Bolt Pistol ruined. Now any merc off the Academy can front a dropsuit with no concern for weapon understanding or management. The old BP tore up armor, but was hard to use against shields; the new one rips everything to pieces. Lights can get one-shot by luck, Mediums sustain critical damage, and even Heavies have to watch their backs (as well as their fronts).
This reign of ridiculousness must end. I can understand if some buffs were necessary, but changing the essence of a weapon is completely unwarranted! Bring back the old Bolt Pistol! End Rant
What I LIKED about the old Bolt Pistol
- Killing required sufficient aim, tactics, and/or a weakened enemy
- Damage could throw an enemy at full health off guard/suppress, but not straight up kill without risk/extended engagement
- Slower reload time felt like I was getting something influential/powerful ready
- Old RoF gave time to readjust aim at a distance and gave inherently low CQC effectiveness
- Larger clip allowed for back-up shots without having to reload constantly (while in combat)
- Precise
What I DISLIKED about the old Bolt Pistol
What I LIKE about the new Bolt Pistol
What I DISLIKE about the new Bolt Pistol
- Damage too powerful
- Small clip
- RoF exhaust clip too fast
- Constantly reloading
- Too powerful in CQC (Probably RoF + Dmg boost)
- More kick (might just be me; don't mind this one that much)
The new BP is OP and feels more like another light weapon (at least it kills like one) rather than a sidearm. Please bring back the real BP and take out the current imitation trash! Thanks!
