Imagine a youtube video, what do you prefer?
Watch the entire video at 480p Or Watch 5 seconds at 1080p and wait 40 seconds to load other 5 seconds
I'm a workaround

scanners just need to be rolled back to how they were.

Caldari scout means 90 meters. Volume of a sphere is (4/3)*pi*r^3. That means a caldari scout passively scans a little over 3,000,000 meters., at as low as 20dB.
Amarr scout can scan 2,650,000 cubic meters at 18 dB strength.
An active flux scanner (the largest area out of all scanners by over double) is the integral from 0 to Pi of (0.25)*Pi*r^2. Or just under 100,000 cubic meters.
The active scanner is on 25% of the time, the passive scanner is on 100% of the time.
The active scanner provides counter intelligence(you have been scanned), the passive scans do not.
The active scanner makes you vulnerable (you have to select the equipment and use it), the passive scanner does not.
No, if you want a video comparison, the active scanner would be a VHS tape (240p@30fps) versus a little bit better than bluray at 1080p@120FPS
EDIT: I have incorrectly written 300,00 cubic meters for the caldari scout before due to my disbelief in the difference in numbers.

I don't even think they would be competitve if they were reverted back to their old values. They're going to need more than that if they want to be useful in the current meta. |

They're going to need more than that if they want to be useful in the current meta. Well, the reason why active scanners got nerfed so hard is because everyone hated being permascanned.
Now as you can see it can be roughly 30 times worse, but on the upside(downside) people don't have the "you have been scanned" constantly above their heads.
So people really fall into two catagories, either:
A) active scanners weren't as horrible as people thought pre-buff, acutally they would need an insanely large buff.... like really insane
or
b) Scout passive scan is absolutely ridiculous and needs to be toned down

But for the moment a recharge buff to Active scanner is needed, 40 seconds for a 5 second scan is just too much.

I'm not sure how they work now (are the angles bugged? It feels like they are), but I know they need a cool down time buff. That's it.
I love the snapshot scan, but it would be better if it were an actual snap, instead of a half second long scan time. |

lol scanners do need a buff. I can not from them in my Minnie scout and a cloak. Minnie scouts are by far the weakest scouts in ewar. it is rare I see any one with a scanner most of the time it is a vehicle that is scanning unless they are a gal logi in a squad of 4 or more. even including those I say about 80-90% of the time I am not scanned. I had a cald logi and all the eq but I rarely use it. unless it is to bring uplinks and sometimes the hives. so why not give the scanners a small buff. like wider scan area, faster cool down and maybe a slight better db scan. (like 1-3db lower than now at most) |

(like 1-3db lower than now at most) If you would like my opinion ( and I kno wno one is asking) the galllogi is the problem... but hear me out.
The gallogi bonus is such that scanners are balanced with the suit in mind, meaning that equipment is really only good on the gallogi. It creates the binary condition that either go gallogi or forget it.
Now if all scanners were given the gallogi stats, and the galllogi had its bonus changed, things might look a little up.
What should the gallogi bonus be changed too? Cooldown time bonus, 25% cooldown time bonus would not be game breaking and it would still be useful.
Just my opinion though.

I think that the specialized scanner using suit, gallente logistics, has bonuses that are too low. With the current game mechanics, even with proto everything, scouts can still get under an active scanner even when it's fully specced. Now this wouldnt be so much of a problem because they are scouts but, the gall logi itself is specialized in using a tool with many many downsides that is specialized in finding sh*t.
So I find it kind of ironic that, a suit specialized in finding sh*t can't always find it even when it's there for it to find
