A lot if hate comes from uplinks in ambush and I too rage when there is only uplinks right in the fire line of the reds or in a corner with no way out and 16 reds "shooting fish in a barrel"
So thought we could discuss uplink placement strategies
1) which ever direction ur facing when you drop the uplink is the direction you face when spawning, don't drop it while staring at the corner!
2) yes we need links close to the battle but we also need fall back positions I case we get over run. I try to place one on the back side of the battle line( like 100m) and left and right which also allows for easy flanking.
What's your strategy???

My strategy is dropping a few between the first objective and spawn, closer to spawn, with low respawn times to help keep pushes alive, and then scatter a bunch all around the objectives we're trying to push, and a bunch ~120 meters away from objectives near the redline edges.
I have a lot of derplinks...

This is one of those #ProTip things. A lot of people just toss uplinks in corners as they pass, but that often leaves people spawning at a horrible disadvantage. A little effort goes a long way on uplink arrangement.

A) I freaking hate ambush spawn mechanics. I tried flanking enemy lines to place uplinks, but our spawn location was surrounded, there was literally no way we could win because there was only 1 spawning location, and it was camped.
B) I always try to put them behind little hills and knolls so the glow is much less evident.
C) I try and place them far enough outside an objective (or if you are in ambush the front lines) such that scouts with range amps won't find them unless they are actively searching.
D) I never place them too near one another. Usually try opposite sides of an objective so anyone using an active scanner has a limited chance of picking up both uplinks.

all my mercs start the round with a spawn hack suit. six uplinks can be dropped, after a while i noticed which ones stayed and gathered points and which placements were a waste of an uplink. watching where others placed theirs that stayed. 1000 wp a match is an average from this. place them outside the main fighting area and make sure the last one you set is off your radar before you set the next one. so if someone finds one, they dont just follow their radar and take them all out.

What's your strategy??? Just spend time looking for hidden spots (their are alot just gotta look) In certain maps ill put them in hills next to redline most reds wont look up their. |

Do you not think this is one of those very basic things the game should tell players when they start? This game needs a proper tutorial video or something. Why not ask the DEVS to get the community to create general tutorial videos and have a competition for the best one to be put into the game?
If that's too much hassle for CCP to do then there is no hope.

When I do drop uplinks it has to be a dedicated thing. You can't just drop them and thenforget. It eorks better to move them as needed. When I die I go around again before I attack and pick two more spots with the K-9 uplink.
I try to run around one way from the spawn point and allow the links to change the battleline. As opponents storm the spawn point my team can flank from one side and close around from the rear. Then I will try to keep working around clockwise or counter clockwise from there. Usually, I put one far and one close to the active area, but mot too close unless we are holding it.
If other links are already in a good spot then I just drop mine too as a constant replenishment.

I've been playing for 1.5 years and did not realize this. I will do my best to place drop links at a better angle.

What's your strategy??? the hate is misguided.. the major problem is the fact that in ambush "smart deploy" dosnt allow you to "smart deploy" and just throws you at an uplink..
if smart deploy was separated from uplinks then it would improve the game mode masivly..
it would let us have the choice to choose where to spawn.. OR to smart deploy and be xxxmeters from any enemys

In ambush?
Don't, you'll get your whole team murdered
In skirmish/dom
Basically places that are not too far away from key critical points however far away enough and off the beaten path that running across it by accident just simply that shouldn't happen. Also use cover and throw it in a direction of desired facing. worse thing you can do for your spawner is having him nose into the wall while a shotgun behind his skull. I am sure more of them would rather get the shotgun in the face.
High locations work sometimes but do not place them in high locations where I can still see your head even if you crotch from ground level, this is what I call a headshot vending machine. The gallente airport control tower is one such location to avoid placing links on top of despite it's height advantage over the other three buildings which provide much more cover from ditch snipers like myself and increases the options of escape as well.
Avoid rooftops with only 1 escape route as well such as the one the gallente labs near the two reactor cooling towers.

In Ambush OMS I always assume that vehicles will be called in and so I run immediately to a spot overlooking my team and through both a link and a hive, then find a spot overlooking that spot so when it gets found it can still be protected. This works out well when in tough matches but in easy ones they end up being links to nowhere.
It is frustrating to have such good strategic sites and watch blues spawn in and run back down into the slaughterfields. It is like the only way to play is constant pew pewing with no thought, just action, even if you just die.
Because, that's why.

That said I agree with your frustration. I will place an uplink on the other side of the map while my team is being slaughtered at out red line but the still don't use it! They just running into the meat grinder. Very frustrating.

Inside of the fence protecting people from falling into the pits and dying.
It's fun, only scouts are able to jump out and if the reds are smart they'll just farm off your team all quick like.
As an added bonus you'll get loads of WPs while the rest of your team doesn't, which means you will be far ahead of your team mates in WP.
And as we all know you are competing with your team mates for a larger share of the reward, you having 1+k WP while they have 0~100 WP will make the system pay you loads more.
You thought the reds where your real enemies in pub matches? Not a chance. Make sure you get more WPs than your team mates do by any means necessary.
To all who thinks pub matches are about good fights: Lol. Give me your ISK and maybe I won't put down match crippling links.

It depends on the battle type really.
In an Ambush, I'd normally opt for placing an up-link on the backside of the enemy, hidden, and not in "barrel" position. I'll also have a second placed cornered towards the enemy in the frontal position of the fight; usually towards the one I placed towards the back of the enemy to kind of pincer them.
From then on I simply go on Up-link patrol to make sure they aren't being camped; if they are I'll just place them somewhere else so no one spawns there. Simple.
