Imagine this used in DUST, as a Caldari long range Machine gun. You have to reload it's single barrel, then charge up the trigger to set up how many bullets you want to use in one go. It will fire until it uses up the allotted amount of bullets that the charge has set, then decharge until you can use it again. It could be very accurate, but balenced in that one needs to charge it to fire. I think it would be cool to introduce it into the game via hotfix using the Forgegun model and the RR sounds.

Damage: 1 RoF: 24000 rounds per minute (400 rounds per second) Mag: 1000 Fires in 200 round bursts. Range: 10-12m WAY too low DPS (400 on a CQC weapon?), and doesn't work with the game.
Games calculate time in frames, and if this one runs at under 400 FPS, then the gun won't actually deal the damage.
Cool idea tho.
Id prefer something like a multi-flaylock round launcher that fires like 6-12 pellets, fires as fast as the FP, and each pellet has a 1.5m blast radius.
Each shot detonates at 12-15m, but does full damage inside of that range

As to the framerate issue. Other games have made weapons like this, and I will explain how they make them work. The Typhoon in Crysis 3 for example. Lets say the physics of Dust work at 20 frames per second. To make a weapon like this you simply make it fire 20 rounds per frame. That would equate to 400 rounds per second that deal 1 damage a piece. Basically a shotgun that fires really fast, low damage shells. And really, that is exactly how these types of weapons work IRL. They aren't firing a single bullet every 1/400ths of a second. They fire a larger volley of bullets every couple of milliseconds. |

Nah, something similar to that is something I've already described in multiple past occasions as an Amarr beam lance. charging for several seconds and then firing a concentrated laser like a more intense laser rifle beam for a predetermined ammount of time before cooling off and charging to fire again.
Example: 3 second charge, 6 seconds of sustained fire, then 3 seconds forced cooldown. Total time passed 12 seconds and one round of ammunition used and can only be fired every 6 seconds.
Numbers can be changed however but that's the basic idea. mix of a scramblers rifle and laser rifle on a heavy frame. Would also be the amarr large turret on tanks, if it didn't just use a regular amped up laser rifle. ideally both would be options because every race would have several variants available for every weapon type and role that fit each individual race.
Of course this is in candyland dust that's never going to happen but it's fun to dream.

Rail tech is projectiles. Rail guns shoot bits of metal at high velocities, and the Cal HMG would use Rail tech. Just lots of metal bits lined up in the barrel and discharged electronicly like in the vid.

Metal Storm uses bullets though. It isn't a Railgun, and a Railgun wouldn't work like that anyway. Not only that, but high RoF is not a traditional Caldari trait. Its a Minmatar trait.
Sorry, but if there was ever a Metal Storm type weapon in Dust, it would be Minmatar. |

Too inefficient to be Caldari. Is far more minmatar than anything else.
Caldari might have a heavy dual rail (imagine a gun with two targeting reticules - one above one below) but they don't just throw walls of bullets at a problem - that's a minmatar thing.

Well in eve projectile weapons are conventional bullets and shells that do explosive damage. It's one of the many things that's completely 100% wrong about dust.-á
Rails are kinetic weapons, it's not a shell with a fuse or anything or propelled by gas and an explosion. like you said it's a bit of metal that gets accelerated and it goes much faster than any projectile weapon which is why the damage is kinetic and eve projectiles are explosive.-á In eve railguns belong to the hybrid category with blasters and can be used interchangably on gallente and caldari ships. caldari and gallente are supposed to get bonuses to both rail weapons and blasters and then caldari also use missiles while gallente use drones. (something else were missing) So cal get hybrids and missiles and gal get hybrids and drone bonuses. At least in most cases not all. they're hybrid weapons because they deal varying amounts of both thermal and kinetic damage woth the bullets. Not straight up kibetic. lasers usually equate to em damage and kill shields, explosive/projectile weapons are explosive damage and eat through armor. And hybrid weapons fall in the middle usually with the thermal and kinetic damage.
Amarr -laser -em(electromagnetic) -shields Caldari-á-hybrid -thermal/kinetic -shields/armor Gallente -hybrid -thermal/kinetic -shields/armor Minmatar -projectile -explosive -armor
Missiles are used by all races but mostly caldari and can do any type of damage so missiles are the 4th weapon type after lasers, hybrids, and projectiles. I won't get into drones and how that works but they're kind of a 5th weapon type.
I know your talking about the metal storm thing though just wanted to explain it within how the game is supposed to work. They got it wrong in dust and that's why it's not explained really in game. -á -á

In Eve the different damage types (Kin, Therm, Expl, EM) all have correlating resistances. Armor and shield naturally have strengths and weaknesses against the different damage types (most are logical, armor is weakest to explosive, shield weakest to EM, Kin and Therm are usually somewhere in the middle for both).
Dust doesn't have those different damage types, it's all just straight damage. The only way to kind of mirror Eve is to try and follow the damage patterns with natural resistances and weaknesses. I would like to incorporate resistances more into Dust, especially with vehicles, but doing so would require virtually a complete overhaul of everything.
It should also be noted that while Dust and Eve exist in the same universe, they are different games. What works for one might not mesh well with the other.
P.S.: In my experience with Eve, I've seen people advocate missiles because they claim you can change damage types based on your enemy, but I've never 1) seen a fit with any gaping weaknesses in one damage or another, most fits try to be well balanced and 2) had an opportunity to switch ammo types mid-fight or even pre-fight. Even with hybrid ammo with the shortest reload time (5sec) (bar lasers which do it instantly), it's just too much time in an actual fight (at least in my experience, I mainly stick to frigs and cruisers), let alone missiles' 10sec reload.

about the first part with resistance is just more proof this game was done incorrectly. theres no eve parity, were missing inate suit resistances altogether except that one sentinel bonus if its still around. these games exist within the same universe and its all the more reason they should play by the same rules.
armor resistances dont simply dissapear when you go from space to ground. ive long been an advocate of completely starting over dust and reworking everything from the ground up. its evident shanghai had no idea what they were doing the first time around and i was right when i predicted they would cut their losses and start over on a new platform aka legion. eve had balance through the sum of all its parts. shanghai cut corners and the result was the chaotic nature of dust with no balance. modules are missing, theyre in the wrong slot (example: kin cats should be "high" slots (mid slots) and damage mods should be in their 4 categories to the 4 damage types and be low slot items. we should have resistances, ive also always wanted a form of capacitor introduced intos suits and vehicles. its simply a matter of tweaking the formula from eve that works. not cutting 60% of it and doing the other 40% wrong in dust.
they tried to build a car without an engine and wheels. surprise surprise it didnt go anywhere.
well the damage types arent why i ever used missiles, thats because of the range for me which makes them useful in pve and when you come across someone whos resistance tanked to the rats theyre fighting im sure they have some pretty big holes in the other damage types they havent tanked for in the situtation. i had a drake and i loved it. But i wasnt really talking about that, mostly just explaining what the official damage types are and where they go opposed to the incorrect ones present in dust. as i pointed out the lack of a blanket bonus for caldari to all hybrid weapon range, and a gallente buff to all hybrid weapon damage or fire rate whatever ccp wants to make it. really on the drake thing one of the biggest dissapointments about this game was finding out shields werent passive repped on suits or vehicles. then when i was going to go and make the closest thing to a proper shield fit i could shanghai went and took away the caldari logi regulator bonus. if i want to forgo equipment and armor in favor of a half second recharge delay and make it a combat suit that should be my choice since at the time their was no effective shield suit or self healing build. doesnt make sense that caldari equipment thrown on the ground can outrep a gal suit with nothing but armor repairers. another glaring inaccuracy withing new eden.
you could have had neut grenades to knock out vehicle and player caps. or mines. then theyre dead in the water and cant use their mods. we could have had web mines to slow people down in corridors or web tools for logis. logi suits are just wrong from the ground up. theres no shield tool and the only armor tool is a minmatar item which doesnt even make sense when anyone whose played eve would know it belongs on an amarr or gal logi. our tech 2 specialized suits are missing half their bonuses. suits get bonuses wrong. theyre arent enough skills providing said bonuses. were missing drones as a gallente weapon.. i mean its rediculous, everythings wrong. not that the game isnt an enjoyable fps knockoff of eve which it is very much so, but from a game mechanics point in new eden almost everything is completely wrong or just missing
thats why they never managed to balance it. you cant balance a damage mod when the counter resistance mod doesnt exist. thats why they started at 10 and got nerfed. 10 was designed to counter resistance mods. and if your in an amarr suit you should have the option to explosive resistance yourself because your slow and an easy target with all the armor. then
it is definitely wrong in dust. not a little different. very different and completely and utterly wrong.
