Basically i'm getting back on today after an extended leave, and I'm really torn on whether i should get a proto suit, more proto weapons or to invest in vehicles.
I take these suits to Proto: minamatar scout, min commando, min heavy, min assault, amarr logi, caldari logi, caldari assault, ammarr assault, amarr heavy, gal scout
Obviously every weapon to proto.
Top up my EWAR.
Or invest more into my dropship and vehicles.
I love my incubus, and i've been a PC transport pilot, and it took me a year to get into the ADS (with some encouragement from Judge and Evo). That being said I can't help but feel every scrap of isk, time and SP invested has been wasted. I'll see for my self how strong swarms are today, but if its anything like i've been reading on the forums, the only point to flying now is to beat up on newberries.
Basically i'll need PG upgrade of course, Armor plates, and Reps, Pro burner, Pro fitting optimization for my flying pinata.
Your ideas?

First of all you need to decide shield or Armour, in the current iteration, shields all the way personally.
You need will power management for your tank type. In the case of shields you will need dramatically improved cooldown periods and you need to reduce the penalties your extenders give.
If you feel upto the challange do it, but be prepared to loose a lot of money. My 250K ISK wallet will attest to that.
I've already got most the turrets and modules up to the ADV level. I can fly either a Python or a Inc, the Inc i got to level 3, the python to level 1, and damn glad i didnt take it further before my break from Dust. I feel you on the wallet score. Funny how regularly my impossible to kill dropship went down. I'm wondering if its worth taking it any farther, and should i give it a rest for now.
As a rail pilot, i wasn't going around beating on infantry with the XT-1s, no offesnse but they felt like the shotgun scout of the air.
Cooldown are a good tip though. I'm invested mostly in creating HP buffers.

Breakin Stuff wrote:I notice most ADS pilots never use hardeners.
Non troll question: why is that? Python hardener is A 60% flat damage reduction. On top of -20% to swarms and -10% to forge.
Is it a fitting issue?
Every ADS requires a PG module to fit either a heavy plate or a heavy Sheild extender. Generally ADS have 1 afterburner
The Incubus has 3 lows, so after you have one plate and one PG extender, you need a Repper. No room for a armor hardener. If you se an incubus with one, he's got either low HP or no reps, easy pickings.
The python has the flexibility to use one, or a shield booster. I've seen the hardener used well proactively, but as a reactive defensive measure its crap. Don't take my word for it though I don't fly the python that much, it goes down very easily.

- Not a scrublord
- Knows what they're doing

Then, yes, investing into Assault Dropships is worth it.
I dont take advice from someone who has been trolling pilots for the last couple weeks.
Breaking Stuff aint no pilot, but he's put in the time and effort to look at ADS vs AV. His opinion i value, yours i do not.

If your this invested then you already know the answer , all you have to do is not invest , take some time flying ... you said you just came back so spam derps .
In my mind your just testing the climate and gaining tactical advice for if you need to change up your approach or not and if so , how ? .
Hry, i get exactly what your saying. I do have some experience in flying, but my questions was more for finding advice from the other pilots. Tactical flying advice is always welcome, but if there is some parts of thier SP investment (from adv to pro tier levels) they feel wasn't worth it then i would like to dodge that pitfall and increase my suit/ weapon variety.
That being said, i've never shirked from putting my own ADS on the line, whether its to kill uplinks and roof campers, hunting for snipers, or chase away the other ADS attacking my friendlies. I'm not sure of whther this burst of SP spending will make any sort of difference in my ADV survivability. Thats where the Proto pilots come in.

I actualy like this boyo, after long time matee who understand Philosophy behind Dropship (its DROPSHIP not a Bombship or Battleship), i givin' him 8 pirate flags from 10But honestly dropship were OP like hell, bombards instead of proper support role. Yesterday i actually first time saw two boyos using that in proper way like TRANSPORT and not like Attack ships. Matee give question to yourself, do you support idea of "flying taxis" like Taxis or Something else?! Every vehicle shoud have proper counter, if you have problem with flying somewhere behind solid structure for cover, u r basicaly on the way to oblivion
I can fly the transport ship anywhere on the map. My philosphy for flying low and slow in a transport ship was and still is "anywere a tank can go i can go." What works for transport however does not work for an ADS.
I can tank a couple shots in a grimnes and losing one only hurt my ego not wallet. A decent fit gorgon works just as well. Took more risks because i could afford to. Pure support role for those ships, unfortunately not a ton of WP for vehicle support. Getting any amount of WP from kills is completley dependent on keeping someone in your ship for extended periods of time. I cannot begin to tell you how horrible that can be. Not a full time job thats for sure.
The ADS i felt was putting the defense and saftey of my ship in my own hands. I'm the one who flies the thing, I ought to be able to shoot /shoot back with it. Its the only way for the Pilot to be agressive in the air, and the best way in the air to gain WP.
I've got to try out the old transport ships, but if there's no boost to WP for vehicle support, then its something that will be limited to the very beggining of any dom/skirm. Take off from redline, land it on building, recall if you can, bail if you cant. Rinse repeat.
