Been a while since I made a serious thread, providing positive input for this game.
I have you to thank for that, Rattati. Good work, keep it up. Again, please take my token thanks.
Despite all the, mostly successful, weapon rebalancing that has taken place; a lot of weapons are falling into a hole of disuse/underuse.
aSCR and AR come to mind.
Even with the Tactical AR and Breach AR both seemingly making fully viable comebacks, weapons with an anti-armor damage profile seem to continue to dominate the kill feed.
Folks also seem to agree that weapons such as the AR and aSCR are "balanced" in that they are functioning as they should, but seem to be completely out of their element when used in the situations they are designed for.
Is there any intention to specifically touch up these weapons?
A long time ago, the idea of different ammo types was brought up in these forums. The caldari sniper rifle description had a hinting at such a feature being introduced to the game.
Different ammo types have had different names. "Flux Rounds" "Explosive Rounds"
Here's an example by player NINEinch Weapon Another by player Croned
And many others. This idea is not new. I think a decent implementation of ammo types could help alleviate the small imbalances caused by the damage profile system... but also exacerbate it. (this is a good thing).
Perhaps ammo types that give small bonuses against a particular type of defense, while reducing the effective against the other. Or ones that dramatically increase your damage against a particular defense, while dramatically reducing your effectiveness against another. Also, utility rounds, like sticky/marker rounds used to track targets, infantry or otherwise.
While I don't expect to see an implementation of ammo types in Dust. Is this something that the community should expect at some point at all? (Legion maybe?)

Interchangeable ammo types is a good idea, but it is too complex to be undertaken with DUST's limited development resources. As Derpty says, the best approach right now is to improve Shield suits until more people start running them. (Changing the damage profile on Projectile weapons, and adding shield repair to Nanite Injectors were good steps in the right direction.)
I would not even recommend interchangeable ammo for Legion launch, due to my worry about scope creep and my desire to see Legion sooner rather than later. But it is something I would like to see added to Legion in a future expansion.
